I have done two sets of ruby slippers, one set of bronze tips and yesterday a gothic client asked me for black glitter tips with a silver glitter line above the black. The only problem I had was the black dye sort of ran into the rest of the nail, however much I cleaned my brush, any tips. The bronze ones looked fab.

with regards to the black "running",
do all the zone 1 ends 1st, then return to do nxt stage & so on.
this allows each colour to dry somewhat , so avoiding it blending in with the others.
also, have a spare dry brush handy so that u can clean up your smile lines.
it will get easier with practice.
this is a good way of finding out that you work too wet
if you work just a little bit drier you will get on a lot quicker.
