Hi and welcome to the site

A lot depends on the products you are using:green:. It also depends what you are offering your client, basic mani, classic, Spa etc

Do you not have any handouts from college or your trainer? Most product producers have their own recommended sequence too.

If you let us know what you are using we may be able to help a little more

aww thankyou, well we use salon system the cheeper version :) and if its a basic we have massage and polish and in a deluxe one we use paraffin wax, mask, or warm oil. its just i would ask at college but its easter now so :( i just wanted to know so i could do some friends manicure & pedicures. i use cnd products which i brought at chrismas which are great, i just get so confused where some people get tought different ways so all the advice is different, iv looked on the web and its always said cuticle cream, soak, remover. but im just not sure :s
thanks for your help xx

I have just read your profile. Are you still at college? If you are then it would be best to ask your tutor as we may confuse you even more. All colleges have their own way of doing it x

and also i did recive handouts but i cant seam to find them anywhere :( so im as usless ahaha

As above you need to use the sequence your tutor has taught you to pass your assessments! so wait until you get back to college if you can.

glad to hear you are using CND :D register yourself on the pro site and you will be able to look at videos which are very helpful

Register - CND

This is the way I was taught at college :)

If you think about it logically this is a strange procedure!

If you buff before doing cuticle work the shine on the buffed nail is spoilt!

I wonder why this is taught?

You're so right. That's the way I was taught at college too though.

This is the routine in my college book (VCTC level 2)
remove nail enamel
file/shape with emery board
apply cuticle massage cream
place fingers in warm water

remove from water
apply cuticle remover
push back cuticles with hoof stick
remove dead skin with cuticle knife
use nippers if necessary

nail brush
squeak nail with enamel remover
buff
apply base, 2 coats of enamel and topcoat

That's better! At least it makes sense! Why do colleges teach these things??? I think half the time teachers don't actually really understand what they are teaching! If they did they'd realise that there is no logic there :suprised:

To be honest i've always seen the buffing part as encouraging blood flow to the nail bed, bringing with it oxygen & nutrients to help keep the nails healthy.

The buffers we have are pretty rubbish, so it's the above is the only real benefit i can see.

I was also taught this way.

I would always buff towards the end of treatment, if you thing about your course buffing is grouped with polish application and is classed as an end result i.e you would either use buff, light, dark, french polish as your end result. I tend to buff prior to most polish applications as it creates a lovely base to work with.
