Ok, I have been practising and practising and practising. I can see an improvement with every set i do and am learning from you guys, spending hours pouring over forums, tutorials on here (thank you they are brilliant) and watching videos of techniques and applications.

So last night I did a full set which would be my fourth full set but have done loads of one or two nails at a time to practise.

They are looking better BUT I am feeling a bit fustrated, I mean how many sets did it take before you ladies had that hurray moment?

out of the set i did last night 6 nails were brill, but 4 were wrong.

please tell this gets better!!!

Dont loose patience doll, it takes a lot of practice, i mean A LOT of practice.

We all been there, unfortunately nails is something you cant learn overnight, wake up in the morning and be Brill:hug: It take a lot of effort, will power and self esteem. Believe in yourself!!!

With every set you do you will become better and better. You will notice it yourself. There is no such thing as "how many sets till i become a pro". Everyone is different.

I have been doing nails for over 7 years and still have those Hurray moments (had loads when I went over to the Event). Industry develops constantly, new products, techniques and possibilities coming out all the time and we need to keep on top of it.

Keep practising, post your nails for critique ( you will get honest and constructive advice on here).

Good luck in becoming a nail professional:hug:

I don't think you ever are totally happy with your nails. There is always something you feel you could improve on! xx

I was told off earlier for tweaking my clients nails as she said I'm looking for things :o I'm not they could have been miles better!
I say this everyday here practice everyday, if you look at your work and say ok I need better smiles, sidewall refinement and to get faster at blending than your on the way but if you look at your work and dont know what is wrong than you need more training!

thank you for your kind words everyone.

I feel a bit like I get one thing down an am happy and then its the next thing, firs *** was my smile lines ,but many many tips later they ar looking good, then it was zone 2, getting it right , now i think i am getting there with that and now its zone 3 (argghhhh) its either too far away or too near the cuticle. but then last night 6 were good and i was dead chuffed and the other four were pants, two were too far away and two were too close .

BUT i am not going to give up, i am going to keep at it, keep practising and learning. my assessment is next tuesday an i will practise ALL weekend if i have to to get them looking better and better. I have taken pics of all my nails and can say that i can see a huge improvement.

but I will be over the moon if i can get a ten nail set that i am proud of.

thanks again , your encouragement will get me through this evening, i plan a three hour practise session (again). No one can ever say that tigi is a quitter.

So how did the practise session go? xx

it went quite well, I am still having zone 3 issues and wonder whether a smaller brush would help at all? would that give me better control? my smile lines are looking better every time i do them though and that was causing me great stress last week. i have my assessment on tuesday and trying not to stress. if i fail then it wont be for lack of practise!

thank you for asking and i hope your voice is back. tea helps, it contains tannin and that is one of the best ways to sooth a lost voice apparently, works for me anyway.

well done in putting the practice in, its gr8 to hear that you have pics to compare yourself against.

Hi there!

Sounds like you are doing just fine...it takes time and practice as everyone else has been saying. Rome wasn't built in a day....when it gets all wonky, step away for a few, have a cuppa, get back to it. Don't stress the time it takes, its practice, and I know when I first started it took me three hours to do a set that was half decent, five for it to be perfect, and that was sculpting with just natural (not even p/w)

I walked away from the biz for close to 18 years, with the exception of doing my own nails and some friends - using tips and/or overlays - no sculpts. I just came back to it (going on my retraining foundation in December) and did a set last night, which took me three hours (sculpts) and aside from not getting my c curve right, I was quite chuffed. The point being once you get it, it will be in there (like riding a bicycle).

What size brush are you using? (Most systems have you train with the equivalent of a Kolinsky #8). You could try a different size or shape (if you are using a round, try a flat, etc etc etc). Its practice, therefore you have to find what will work for you.

And do keep taking pics so you can track what you are doing, cos on those days when its all gone to hell in a handbasket, you can go back and see the improvement and get your groove back.

:)

the best critique for your own nails is YOU - i dont think any of us are totally happy with our own work, and always find faults - give yourself TIME flower - you will get there - BELIEIVE ME

thank you everyone for such encouragement. I am really grateful for all your advice and kind words.

My brush is a size 8 i think, i think i might buy one or two slightly smaller ones and have a fiddle with those and see if that helps the zone 3 problems i am having. I have one more practise set to do tonight and then thats it until the assessment on tuesday as am training in eyelash extensions on monday and its going to be a long day .

I will keep practising and practising and when i am feeling a little more confident ill post up some of the sets i have been doing so that you can give me your opinion. BUT on a great note i had two phonecalls last night, two ladies wanting me to do sets for them as they had seen one of my friends nails. I exlpained am still practising etc and said it would be £15 per set. they both seemed more than happy with that and so have my first two clients!

this time next year am hopefully look back on all of this and laugh! never so nervous about an assessment in my life.

Maybe its me, but I'm a little confused by this comment. Are trying to do every single nail with 3 beads, 1 for each zone. The reason I ask is cos sometimes you just have to get smaller and sometimes even tiny beads just to get the perfect result. I think if this is the case you might be a little unrealistic to think that 3 beads is going to complete a nail everytime. Just like sometimes you only need 2 beads to finish the nail. Also really you should be able to do this with a No 8 brush, without the need to buy a smaller brush. Sorry if I have completely lost the plot here :o and this is not what you mean, its just the comment above made me wonder.

ps I'm sure you'll pass your assessment, good luck!
