Have you got any 'tricks' to share?

It is a fantastic trick I teach to everyone. So simple .. so effective ... what a difference it makes.

The trick: When you have finished sanitising your clients nails using your ScrubFresh and a gauze pad .. Place the gauze pad on your working side and if and when you need to wipe your brush as you are working, always wipe it on the damp pad.

Why? The slight dampness on the pad 'draws' any excess liquid INTO the pad and traps it there.

Wiping on your paper or a dry pad just spreads the liquid out more and increases the odour.

Put a drop of water on a dry tissue and watch it spread out!! This is what monomer does on dry paper ... suddenly a small spot of monomer becomes a huge spot of monomer, stinking out the work area.

Using the damp pad with ScrubFresh as your brush wipe also makes sure you are wiping in the same place every time and not leaning on the paper, as you work, where there is unreacted monomer.

How many rashes have I seen on the wrists of nail technicians who do that over and over again!!

That sounds a good tip but is it ok to wipe your brush on a pad that has scrubfresh on it as scrubfresh does contain acetone?

Im sure its ok or you wouldnt say it or do it..but had to ask as it crossed my mind and it may cross others tht read it...after all we are all supposed to know and understand as much as we can about all the products we use.

Why would we use ScrubFresh on the natural nail for preparation and then apply enhancements if it was not compatible with the system?

Would I tell you this is a correct procedure if there had been any question that it wasn't?

Any minute amount of ScrubFresh is IN the pad and has no effect whatsoever on the new monomer in the brush. Wipe brush, saturate the brush with new monomer.

This trick has been taught for years and years and it totally works and is safe.

Thats a great trick Gigi - thanks for posting that!

Let's see... my trick would be...

Common sense really, but put your tip box away AS SOON AS YOU ARE DONE WITH IT! Do you know how long it takes to sort out a 500-tip box after they've been knocked off your table? (trust me - a very long time. It will only happen once!)

Why didn't i know about this ???? :D

I'll be giving it a go today,thanks x

A time saving tip I use is to pre tailor my performance forms. I always have 3 sets (10 forms) stacked together all pre tailored with the length cut down. I have always found that the length of the forms is too long for my sculpts as I vary rarely do very long free edge, the normal would be a medium free edge to around the No: 2 line.

I use my curved scissors and cut down each straight line of the side walls of the forms (the perforated edge of the dark blue box) down to no 4 (the bottom of the small square box in the middle of the dark blue area) then trim in a curved line from one side wall to the other. I then roll the form and sit them in sets of ten forms ready for use. I have a little container that holds them in place until I need them. This takes me just a few minutes but seems to help me out when I am doing a set of sculpts to get right on without messing with trimming the length.

I still further tailor the form to fit the nail if necessary, but on the majority of clients, I find just having length trimmed works very well for me.

Now that is interesting - it is quite hard to imagine so is there any chance you can show us a pic of one you have pre-tailored?

Well I have often wanted to do this BUT worried that the brush coming into contact with the scrubfresh would

1- contaminate the liquid
2 - dry the brush altering its absorbancy of the liquid.

But - you have reassured me that its ok and will be using that tip (because of the odour)

Thanks.

Hi, I don't know whether this counts as a 'trick' but it's something that I just discovered last night.

In about November I bought the file and buffer sampler from CND . I was just back into nails and it was a good way for me to try abrasives that I hadn't used before.

I fell in love immediately with the Glosser Buffer Board. It is so comfortable to hold and I think it feels much nicer on the natural nail than the Girlfriend buffer as it's more flexible. I have used it many times on myself and to be honest it was ready for the bin as it was VERY well worn but I couldn't bear to throw it away (I had used it so much there was white showing through the green - if you know what I mean).

Anyhow, last night I was practising L&P on Handria my trusty little minx of a nail trainer. I was at the stage that I wanted to apply Solar Oil and buff up with an old Koala but didn't have it to hand and couldn't be bothered going upstairs for it.

Instead I used my VERY well worn Glosser Buffer Board and could NOT believe the finish it gave. It is totally unbelieveable, bearing in mind also that I didn't use Solar Oil either to help eliminate surface scratches.

What good value is that!! and as for the finish I didn't need to use a girlfriend to get a glass like finish - I can't wait to try it on a real person!!!!

Just make sure your glossing buffer does not come into contact with Solar Oil ... or any oil ... it wrecks the buffer!!

Will this " trick" work for all brands and their cleansers/dehydrators ?,
Is their an alternative if you dont use scrubfresh ?

I will try and upload a pic later this evening. I have a new phone and have taken a couple of pics but I cannot get the softwear to work on my pc or my laptop to be able to upload the pics from my phone ... I will have to get the 'expert' to sort it out later. But it is very straight forward from my description if you have a form to look at.

I don't have any tricks so to speak but .... i have seen many times cute little bowls for holding your wipes on desks....(had one myself) .....dust !!....we file and remove dust from the nail using a wipe thats been sat gathering that dust.

So now i store mine in a not so cute but practical container with a lid.

Hiya,

I Use cocktail Sticks, roll the point into a damp cotton wool pad(damp with cold water), this makes a very sharp pointy cotton bud

I use it for manicures dipped(dampened) in accetone or scrub fresh, to wipe away nail varnish mishaps or smudges.
I also use them for PMU(permanent Cosmetics) BROWS, when i am perfecting my clients desired brow shape for me to begin my tattooing..I then squeeze a damp pre injection swap over the cotton point, and it will perfect my lines and even wipe away permanent liners (It's Fab)

Surely this would work if the pad was slightly dampened with water?
If you have already dampened one with Scrubfresh then of course it makes sense to use it, rather than throw it away. However if your system uses a brush on dehydrator (with no wastage) then if you use wipes slightly dampened with water surely the same principles would apply.

I always remember many years ago being told to use dampened pads to apply Toner to my skin so that the pad wouldn't absorb too much of my expensive product.

lol i did this the first time i used it  i thought it would be like the girlfriend buffer , and it errr wasnt , haha oh well never mind , i do still love em though

Somebody correct me if im wrong (and bare with me..im not great at explaining what i mean very well....but i know what i mean.......if you know what i mean!! lol) BUT if you used a pad dampened with water..then surely the water (altho diluting the monomer) in effect would be increasing the amount of monomer at the same time and the surface area...the more surface area of monomer..the more odour, so i wouldnt of thought water would be very effective, whereas a product like scrubfresh might be helping to actually breakdown the monomer.

Also with the toner...if you didnt dampen the pad first then the pad would be dry and more absorbant...so you would waste more toner as you would have to put more on the pad to make it damp enough to use, but dampening the pad first would obviously mean youd only need a bit of toner on there, the pad is still absorbant though and wouldnt actually stop anything more or anything else being absorbed.

Hope that made sense! lol :green:

Not really a trick, more of a tip!

When painting your own toes or applying gel toes its much more comfortable if you take off your jeans/trousers and wear some loose pj bottoms or something similar,

I dont really have any great tips as such, but I mentioned yesterday on another thread that the small glass tea light holders that i think you can still buy in asda i think are so ideal to have in your kit...they are small and perfectly formed, made of glass and cant really get knocked over, as well as looking really nice they are pefect for putting a small amount of product in to avoid contaminating your products etc...and easy to clean, and they are only 25p each...bargain! lol
