Well, I have decided that I cant diet, on the account that I love my food and drink too much, lol:)
Iv decided that I need to up my exercise and need some advice! Currently, all I do is swim twice a week, but used to run when I was younger, (a lot younger). I really want to get back into it. Can anyone suggest the best way to go about it? Is it best to set a distance, say a mile, and see how far I can get? Or is a time thing the best way to go? Any help for this unfit geek would be great. (really unfit)!!!!!!

why dont you build up slowly, start with a brisk walk, then power walk and then jog when you can do that comfortably..

I can't run now due to bad back and knees :irked: that's my excuse and i'm sticking to it lol

Swimming is good though, you could always up that to 3 times a week? Does this mean that the WW is out the window now? x

I recently started running (or trying!!) in order to get fit for The Race For Life. I started by getting my husband to drop me about a mile away from the house then I had to run back! At first I would half walk and half run but over time the running is increasing as is the distance.

Interval training is the best, walking and running, gradually build it up and remember always start slow, if you go out too fast you will knacker yourself and get really fed up and probably give up.

Give yourself someting to aim for like a 5K it will help you to keep motivated! A 5K is best to start with dont do what I did and went straight for the Great North Run. once you have completed a 5K if you wnat you could then aim for a 10K etc. I used a book called 'running made easy', it has lots of hints tips and training plans!

Good luck!

I have started running on the treadmill. I could literally do 3 minutes a month ago and today I did 25 minutes! What i do is aim for 5 minutes, then think ok another 5, and keep doing that until i can go no longer!!

Ok, thanks geeks! I think I will work out what a mile is, then see how much of it I can run, and try to build up that way. Is 3 times a week what I should be aiming for? On the bits where I have to walk, (as I know there will be lots of this, lol) should I be power walking? Im going to attempt to go this morning!!!!!

Sherrie, I am still trying with ww, but need to do something else for motivation. Im fine if I stay in and dont have a social life:eek::lol:
