I'm just wondering if anyone has had any trouble in this area?

My other half is really unwell at the moment, he has had some tests and is waiting for a consultants appointment in one week. We are really worried though because at the start of the problem when the doctor referred him for the camera down the throat thingy, she said it was probably a stomach ulcer but that they would tell him on the day of the tests what they find. The didnt do that and they are being very secretive except for one doctor that let a worrying comment slip, and so we are completely in the dark. So, I'm just wondering if anyone can relate to the following and give me some ideas?????

Basically, this started with what seemed like really bad indigestion, over producing acid and that sort of thing. It's got gradually worse and now he cant keep any food down, the only thing we;ve found that he can eat is poached eggs. When he eats anything heavier he is sick and produces loads of painful stomach acid afterwards.

The doctors thought it might be a stomach ulcer, but the camera down the throat revealed that it isnt. they took some biopsies from his stomach and gave him an ultrasound, but they wont say anything. He went back to the doctors to find out because they had originally said that he would be kept informed along the way, and she wouldnt say either, except she let a comment slip that stomach cancer can be treated so not to worry although it may not be that. so now we are really worried, but I dont want to worry unnecessarily (I so wish they would just give us a rough idea about what they are looking into - they must have an idea)

So has anyone had any stomach troubles? Do you relate to any of this? If so, what did you have? I'm not looking for a diagnosis, I just want to get some ideas because we really dont have a clue and are totally in the dark.

Thanks girls (oops - and chaps!)

hi hun , i have had an ulcer on and off since i was a kid , used to hardly eat anything coz i used to throw up all the time ,
i lived on toast and tea !!
then we found out i had gallstones which dont help either ! had gallbladder removed which was a nightmare (wont bore ya )
also at thie time my ulcer got infected so had to take loada of antibiotics for that

i know you will be scared hun , but am sure you will find out soon what it is , if it was something really bad hun they would inform you straightaway , and get him in for treatment. they wouldnt hide it from ya hun

also eggs have a high fat content so they can actually make the stomach flare up even more ! also salad puts too much stress on the stomach as its so hard to digest !! (i never believed that when they told me )
try getting some cracker breads and cottage cheese , avoid tomato based soups , they make too much acid
is your hubby on any meds ?? i would be shocked if he isnt ??

hope this helps a bit hun xxxxx

their are many types of stomach disorders from producing too much acid, acid reflux, IBS, crohns, cealiac.

What you will find is that certain foods are very hard to digest:
cucumber
lettuce
peppers
tomatoes
broccolli
pulses and beans
etc

If he is diagnosed as having a particular disorder, then dietary advice will be given.

If its any consolation, a friend had similar, she was really ill at one point, in and out of hospital, looked like death-warmed up, they took a few liver biopsies but were very secretive. She had crohns and controls it by diet.

My hub has IBS and we got our hair analysed to find out what intolerances we had, his made perfect sense, and within a week of excluding these foods out of his diet he felt stacks better. He now eats whatever he wants, but, he knows not to overindulge in certain foods, and to give his stomach a break. We've just had an overindulgence 2 weeks being on holiday and he's eating Rennies every few hours. Needs to get back on track. (I know when its at its worst cos he does these really weird burps - he just did one thats what reminded me).

HTH

 that sounds like me !! , am like a fog horn when my stomach is bad

It sounds very like my ex husband as well, he had really bad indigestion all the time everything would set it off, and had to got for regular check up with the camera..he had whats called a Barret's hernia... and acid reflux//I don't know very much about it, but like the other things said its all connected to the digestive tract...I know it brought on involuntary muscle spasm hence the sickness all the time ...xx

I suffer from IBS and anything with caffeine in it sets it off, the stomach spasms are like going in to the frist stages of labour. I spent the whole of my birthday in bed in agony with. Stress can be another factor in IBS and alot of other stomach problems.

Believe it or not, this could even be a form of migraine.

My aunt had migraines (with no headache at all) a few years back, and she would have spates of vomiting constantly for no apparent reason. She went down to 5.5 stone at one point because of it.

I'm sure the doctors will get to the bottom of it in due course.

I'm sure that if they knew what it was, they would say. They're not allowed to withold information from the patient and what would be the point.

I'm betting that it's a nervous thing and that's why they can't see anything with the tests and camera.

Hope he feels well again soon. xxxx:hug:

Thanks girls, that has put my mind at rest. I know it sounds like over-reacting but ever since the doctor mentioned stomach cancer I've just been thinking "Oh my god, she wouldnt have said that for nothing!".

Dee and Ann, something you said really strikes a chord with me, Jason (hubby) does these really wierd burps, kind of hollow sounding is the best way I can describe it. Honestly he's so bad some days I swear he's deflating!

Well thanks for all your replies, we see the consultant on the 11th September so I'll ressurect this thread and let you know what the result is.

glad to have been of help.

I think we would all panic at the C word, that consultant was probably thinking aloud and was going through the options, but it was daft of them.

yes, would love to record the hollow burp and compare notes with you! LOL!

A client of mine had probs - cameras etc and no solution.(she was very worried that it was sinister as it went on for months - she was in loads of pain)

Someone recc her a product called ceasefire - and she hasn't had bother since.

So when I started getting really bad acid - I found out where to get it and ordered some.

They are these brown large chewable tablets - that taste of cinnamon but sticks in your teeth  they are disgusting.

But they also really bloody work. The acid goes in minutes. I still have loads left and don't get much bother these days.

defnitely worth a try.

Hi Hun, I know it is easy to say but try not to worry as this will make you both feel worse, the most important thing is to explain to the consultant exactly how you feel (that you have not been told what is going on), take a list of questions with you and the consultant should be more that happy to answer them. Phone the consultants medical secretary and ask them to put you on the short notice waiting list.

Good luck for the 11th, let us know how he get on.

I agree with this... if you are realy worried and feel something is being kept from you, then go to see them and explain your concerns and definitely do the question thing. I agree that you shouldn't worry yourselves unnecesarily, however, with stomach problems, stress can make things worse. So it would be good if someone could reassure you both by answering your questions.

Ask, ask ask...... isn't that what they are there for?

I can only say from my own experience with my dad that when they do know something they do tell you at the time. When he had bowel cancer when they did the colonoscopy he was told at the time that there was a tumour there on the same day he had it.They didn't say it was definately cancerous before the biopsy came back but they did say all indications were that it was malignant.
I think they just do not know at the moment and its not that they are trying to keep you in the dark about anything.

This is great that they did this so quickly, however, it is not my experience of what can happen. If only all facilities and consultants were as good as this.

Hi everyone. Thanks again for your comments.

I have to agree with Gilly I'm afraid. The fact that they've been actively keeping info back despite the fact that we were told at the start that we'd be kept informed is the thing that's worrying us. At the camera down the throat appointment, the doctors said they couldnt discuss their findings except to say they had taken biopsies and that they would forward the results to the consultant.
The lady who did the ultrasound was making notes, and when my other half tried to look, she covered them up! She said she is unable to discuss her findings with us and that she will forward them to the consultant. We have asked questions, but the only answer we get is that we should put our questions to the consultant when we see him.

Well it;s not far off now, Next Thursday. I'll let you know what happens. thanks again for all your input.

I am gonna stick my neck out here BIG time and suggest that this is a virus that is floating around. I read this earlier, copy and pasted it to my Cousin who I thought had been experiencing this a while back. What I didn't bargain for with his reply was the fact he said the syptoms were identical to exactly what you have said. Apparently he had all these tests and they couldn't find a thing wrong, the reason the Docs are not saying anything is because they probably do not know. That is what happened with him. Also if it was Stomach Cancer they would detect that very quickly.

Just a thought, but get him some Echinacea . Its a herb and won't hurt him however if he has a virus it will help shake it quickly.

Hi there. My son, 10yrs was operated on last year for GERD (Gastro
Oesophagus Reflux Disorder). It was determined after wearing a thin nasal gastric tube for 24 hrs that he had severe acid reflux that spilt into his lungs. This resulted in him having symtoms similar to severe allergy asthma. A procedure called a Lapp Nissen was done and he is very well today. A narrowing was made so that the acid could no longer push up. The operation has a high success rate. I'm not at all diagnosing your hubby's condition - just ask the Dr about GERD if you don't feel satisfied with the answers they give you on the 11th. Will check in on your post after the 11th again and will pray for a postive and treatable diagnosis!

Hi everyone.

I just wanted to thank you all for your advice on this thread, and to let you all know that Jason was diagnosed today with coeliac disease. We are relieved because although this is a lifelong condition, it is non threatening and easily treated through diet modification.

Thanks again for your help and advice.
