looking for courses in the yorkshire area asap

Is there a special pregnancy massage course? Wouldn't you just tailor a massage to suit a pregnant lady? I couldn't lie on my back when pregnant for long because I went dizzy and almost fainted, but had no choice sometimes when being scanned in the later stages.

Also couldn't lie on tum after 4th month either.

insurance wont cover i think it seems like nobody wants to take responsibility for it there are a few private courses but i want a nationally recognized course if one exists you would think you would just adapt to the positioning of the persons body

Well it depends on how pregnant the lady is - it is hard shifting around in position and massage or not - it would be difficult, potentially embarassing and terribly uncomfortable moving position frequently (necessary I have found).

Perhaps you could approach the Guild - maybe they could tell you whether there is a nationally recognised qualification?

There is pregnancy yoga, but then that is down to the individual - a therapist isn't required.

Why would you want to do this? Is it something you think there is a market for? The salon up the road does this - would you to like me to ask them what their qualification for this is?

if you could ask that would be great and whether there is a market for it i feel there could be if pushed properly

I'll phone them up later on - I grabbed their price list to look at spray tanning and which solutions they use.

Will let you know :)

Massage in Pregnancy is generally done seated, with the lady sitting backwards on a chair so her back is exposed and she can rest on the back of the chair. You would also support her with cushions and towels.

I think the Penny Price academy in Wakefield does one that is recognised by BABTAC or CIBTAC whoever it is.

Have a look at Penny Price Aromatherapy Limited.

When I tried to ring them up, first time it said 'the person you are calling knows you are waiting' and then later it went straight to voicemail.

It's been engaged half nn hour easily. Good job I don't want to make an appointment.

Anyway, they are chargin £50 for a 'mother-to-be' package which includes a Hydrotherm Back Massage.

She rang me back and I booked my daughter in for a hair appointment!!! I felt cheeky asking just about the massage, but she told me that Hydrotherm came and taught them in the salon and they got a special pregnancy massage cert.

You cost me a fiver time to relax  , and the stress of getting Cadence's hair cut.... gonna mentally prepare now.. although I've got 3 days!!! Best dose her up on Calpol!

There is a specialist pregnancy massage course, I did one in November, it's by Well Mother (Well Mother Courses for Massage Therapists.)

After the 4 day course you have to massage 4 ladies 4 times as case studies and then write an essay.

The course is good but you have to be really confident in massage because a routine isn't shown, which when you think about it, is right, every pregnant woman requires something different. The massage is a side lying massage which is weird at first but is very relaxing for the mother. I also bought a pregnancy massage course from Ebay which was very helpful.

All the mothers I have worked on LOVE the abdomen massage as do the babies who often follow your hand as you massage :) It's amazing.

The course also covers gentle stretching for the mother and also will insure you to work with her partner and show techniques to help ease back ache etc near the end. You are insured to work through all the trimesters but I choose to work only after the first 3 months.
