Hello Geeks.

Does anyone know what this could be? ( i hope iv attached the photo right!) That is actually bruising not red polish! She said it is incredibly painful. Iv asked if she has worn tight shoes and the only time she has was nearly two months ago and this has only come on recent. Can that just happen? Iv obviously thought of infection, but why is it bruised? It is only on both her big toes.

By the way i have advised her to visit her gp!

Ahhh that looks so painful no idea what it could be however sorry:( x

not sure, but is she a runner?

Would like to see the replies on this ad I haven't a clue sorry x

Its a strange one isnt it! No she isnt a runner, but good thinking marion!

Yikes, that does look really painful..looks like fresh blood under the nail...I may have thought it was coming from the matrix but the "bruising" at the matrix end is darker suggesting its old blood so can't be from there.

No idea to be quite honest..interested to see what it is if someone knows..

Bleeding under the toe nail is caused by injury. Very common in runners, but for a non-runner person its usually casued by the free edge constantly banging/rubbing against the inside of the shoe. The pain comes form the pressure of the blood under the nail, which is often released by drilling a hole into the nail. The nail will eventually fall off too.

Other than this, I have absolutely no idea. It does not look anything related to infection to me.

She would need to see a Podiatrist rather than a Dr, although a Dr would probably refere her.
xx

I thnk i would be inclined .. if there is no obvious explanation for it.. ie.. wearing of trainers, special work shoes, is she on a medication of some sorts etc.. to see her GP..if there is nothing medically wrong then perhaps they can refer her to a specialist.

Thanks ladies, your all blooming fantastic!

I agree with Caz, about injury and shoes... Indicated by the way her big toe bends in. Looks like she has worn extremely tight shoes at the end, possibly heals considering the extent of it. One of my friends is having similar 'symptoms' to this but with her little toes. So much that the nail has fallen off but looks to be growing back. And she wears badly fitting heals 6 days a week, all day.

Definitely a podiatrist jobbie! :-D

I have seen this before on a client following a heavy night out in a pair of peep toe heels.

Why are we even speculating? She needes a podiatrist and the sooner the better ... much more knowledgeable than a GP about foot and hand conditions. These people are experts in their field.

It is not within our remit to diagnose or to guess what this condition is. If the client claims no injury, no running trauma etc then she should go straight to an expert ... and we are not experts in this type of thing nor are we allowed to diagnose or perscribe any sort of treatment. Never mind bumbling around on a public professional forum showing our ignorance by trying to.
