I have bought a pair of fairly new Ghd's from a friend.

The trouble is when straightening my daughters hair and particularly when twisting it to create waves, I've noticed that the bottom couple of inches of the plates do not line up exactly, there is a gap through which the hair slips out because it doesn't hold it tightly enough.

Meaning to do the twirls I am restricted to using the top inch or so of the plates which are close enough together iykwim

I have thrown my own old GHDs because they stopped working . . . . but the plates were a damn sight better than these are.

SO . . . .

can anyone confirm for me. . . when you get a pair of ghd's and close them together (without hair in), can you see through the middle of them anywhere? With these I've bought, I can't see through the top but there is a 1-2mm gap at the bottom where I can see through, where the plates seem uneven

Am I making sense? Sorry seem to be waffling. Only if this is just how they all are then so be it.

I just know they're nowhere near as good as my old ones.

Any help would be really appreciated, thanks

Hi I've had my GHDs for years an no they don't have a gap in them when they are closed. Did you know GHD guarantee their straighteners for 4 years? Maybe you could contact them and get them repaired, if they are not that old :)

Your ghds shouldn't have a gap. Send them back.

Sorry honey but these sound like fake GHDs as there should be no Gap xx

Thanks for your replies. Don't get me wrong, it's not a massive gap . . . but you can see daylight through the plates apart from about an inch or so at the top.

It may only be a tiny gap but it does make such a difference. I would have looked at my old ones (not working) to compare but had a clear out in a mad moment. I wish I'd kept them now and maybe had repaired (although they were older than 4 years)

Didn't know you could get fake Ghd's! I have the box and brush that came with them and all, but not the receipt. If she gave the receipt to me (if she still has it) would I be able to contact Ghd, or is the contract regarding the guarantee only between Ghd and the person they originally sold to? Does anyone know?

You can send them back using the guarantee out of the box

I have 2 pairs of ghds - an original fat pair which I have had replaced and still work fine now and another pair which were originally pink but I have had them replaced 3 times (3rd time they sent me a white pair) because they had faults with them. If you ring them up they should be able to repair or replace. Think you have to go online to fill a form out and I think it will tell you somewhere aswell the editions that are still under guarantee. Hope this helps a little xxx

OK, I have had a look at the manufacturers guarantee leaflet in the box, seems like I can only return them with the original receipt.

She doesn't have this.

?

Does anyone know if its possible to repair?

Did she pay for it by card? they may accept proof of purchase by way of a statement.

Failing that I think you should ask your friend if you can return them to her and her give you your money back.

Does the cable have the hologrammed label on them this should have a code on them if you phone ghd they can confirm if these are real and still under warranty x

It's not always a good idea to have dealing like this with friends is it, it would be so much less awkward if it was an unknown person.
