Hi, can you tell me what, in your opinion, is an acceptable time for applying a set of acrylics (pink and white) from scratch? One girl, in the salon I work at. has just been sacked because she took too long!

I think there is far too much focus on the time it takes to get enhancements applied, and not enough focus on producing high quality results!

How long does the "boss" expect you to take to apply enhancements?

We are expected to do a full set in 1 hour. The girl was doing it on average 1 hour and 30 mins apparently, but I believe it was quicker than that. I have managed to get down to 1 hour 5 mins average. I would however prefer to take a little longer and achieve quality not quantity. In my opinion the sets I do are fine, good even, but I personally would prefer a little longer for perfection.

That is terrible Im sorry but as HeatherDavis said it shouldn't be down to how long it takes it should be the quality of the work.
I have been doing nails for 3 nearly 4 years and ok I am part time but I take 1 hour 30 mins and have stopped beating myself up over times as long as my client is happy then so am I

Seems to me you need to have a sit down with your boss- 1 hour is pushing your luck, I book out 2 hours for new clients!!! You are not a sweat shop, don't let anyone treat you like one!!

I took 2 hours for a rebalance on Saturday! I normally take about 1.5 hours but she had nails on from the local Chinese salon down the road. Seemed a lot tougher.

To do a full set of p&w normally takes about 1.5 hours, to do a full set of glitter tips takes about 1hr 45.

HTH's. x

I agree with you all. It should always be quality, not quantity. When I was working mobile I too always booked out 2 hours for a set to be done. I dont like to think that a client feels as if she is on an assembly line.

I dread the day when I have to do a rebalance! I know it will take me much longer. Some infills take longer too because if they have a lot of lifting then there is much more work to do. I have had to make the decision, that if they are lifting a lot whether they are infills or rebalances, then I will be soaking them off and redoing them from scratch. If they have to come back later or make a new appointment, then that is the only way around it.

This when your initial application comes into play, if the appropriate time is taken for prep is used and the application and finishing is done as you want it, and of course the client takes care of their enhancements and uses a good quality oil every day, then your rebalances will be easier. :)

I know how you feel! These were super hard and super thick around the cuticle area which I had to file down to blend and they took what seemed like forever! There wasn't any lifting apart from on a thumb which I had replaced for her last week and they hadn't grown up an awful lot so she could easily have gone another week with them. I think she saw how flush my acrylic was on her thumb compared to the others and decided she had to have the rest done too!

The obvious problem we have is that the clients see someone different nearly every time unless they ask for the same nail tech. Therefore, if one nail tech does not do a really good first application then it is made difficult for the next nail tech who has to do the infills or rebalance. Oh, problems, problems....... Never mind, tomorrow is another day.

I totally understand, and this is where it would be ideal if every tech was working to the same standard as yourself. It is a shame really that time wins over quality.
