Ive just been signed off massage with tendonitus.I have been in agony for days but still been going to work not complaining.
The doctor says i need to rest it so she will sign me off work. So I said no I will still go to work as I hate letting them down but it will just be impossible to do massage at the moment.
So I tell him and he's a complete A*** So he phoned the salon to question my friend as if i'm lying! I have a doctors note which ive paid for out of my own pocket and ive only ever taken 2 days off sick.
I know business is business but for god sake i'm in agony.
I really feel like handing my notice in tomorrow

If you have been signed off by the DR you shouldn't be working. You won't be covered for insurance purposes and your employer is breaking employment laws making you work.

She has only signed me off massage hun xxx

I would just get fully signed off by your GP if I were you. The rest will do you good generally and help your tendonitis.

From an employer's point of view, it's sometimes more straightforward if you know an employee is off sick therefore not in the salon, then you can plan your staffing around this. Whereas if they are at work but can't do this that or the other it can make things more complicated in the workplace.

I know and you know that you are only being considerate in thinking you don't want to 'let them down' at work, but I don't think all bosses appreciate this . . they tend to think, well if she is fit enough to come in then let her get on with it. Especially with your condition when you don't even look ill, so you can't even command the sympathy vote.

As you have said, you've only ever had 2 days off work sick, so why feel guilty? Just take some time off and don't worry about it.

You really need to get yourself fully signed off.

Employers have a duty of care to staff and clients and if you are not fit for work, or by working are potentially doing yourself more damage, you should not be working.

You're not helping yourself by talking your gp out of signing you off and your GP isn't helping you either.

If you do further damage and need to make a claim for industrial injury, you are probably stuffed as you misled your boss about what you were able to do. If a claim is made against your salon for any reason the insurance is probably invalid.

All in all you are risking your own health and your boss is risking invalidating their insurance.

You only get the one body, so look after it.

Regards

Mike

Geeks you are right. I should have just got signed off but they will expect me to go in or they just wont talk to me for 2 weeks.I explained that I should be signed off but I will be in too much pain to massage. It really is a joke! So much of a joke that tonight I received a text from the boss to say it's ok you only have a few massages in (meaning that it will be ok for me to just do a few) and one LC24 body wrap which is only 5 mins of massage on the thighs and I can do that with one hand!!!!!!!!!!! 5 mins? It should be 30! and how the hell would I tell my client I would have to massage her with one hand?
So I told him to stcik his job where the sun doesnt shine.

Hey chick. Yes I really did lol.
I feel like a whole weight has been lifted off me! I have been resting it loads so the swelling has gone down so just the odd little ache here and there but it's on the mend :)
So yes I just have to hand my uniform and keys back to him. Which I will do with pleasure  xxx

Their attitude STINKS!
So glad you responded like that, as well as making you feel a whole lot better, maybe they will think twice about treating the next therapist who works for them in the same shoddy way.
And it's spurred you on to being self-employed too. All the very best with your mobile work, as you said, spring's coming and you'll soon get busy.

You would hope so hey. They have therapists in and out like a shot. Doest look good for their clients. But I suppose when you have a boss that doent have much of a clue about beauty then this is what happens unfortunately. I will miss all my clients and feel bad for just leaving them  But i'm so happy to be back self employed. I have more enthusiasm working for myself.
Thank you hun  xxx

Hey Chick.
Congratulations on standing up for yourself! It sounds like you're better off out of there. Good Luck with going mobile again!

You now have the proper time you need so hopefully you'll be feeling better in no time! xxx
