Hi everyone,

I have just opened a home salon doing nails, waxing and spray tanning.
I am thinking of my business long time and considering specialising in Male waxing.
Reason being it's very specialised, I live in an area with a large gay community, no-one else does do it around here.

Im thinking there is a market oppertunity and I always like to take advantage where i can but before i invest in training im interested in what can be made.

So what is an average price for a BS&C and how long does it take?

Thanks

I've had a look at your profile, which seems to indicate that you are not trained in waxing? This is not a problem but I really would suggest you don't try to run before you can walk. There is a steep learning curve with waxing and you can only really be good at it with practice and experience. Even if you have a natural flair for it, you still need experience, in my opinion, before you undertake intimate waxing.

Also, I am not all all sure that the majority of male waxing clients are gay. I would say, the minority of my male waxing clients are gay. I don't know if you are near Brighton but there are of course salons there that offer this service.

I am not trying to put you off, I just think it would be a good idea to take a long term view on this. Learn to wax, perfect your craft, learn intimate waxing, and market your services :)

In terms of timings and cost, I charge £40-£60 for brazilian (penis, scrotum, bottom, and between the cheeks) and I allow an hour.

It varies. I charge £15 per 15 minutes that it takes. Some men just want their scrotum doing, whilst others require complete hair removal off back, bottom, scotum, pubic bone, shaft and stomach.

To remain fair to customers I dont charge a set price for male waxing. Its not so bad for women as a half leg requires a half leg wax regardless of the quantity of hair. A man however can have either a small amount of hair or be very dense with it, which takes more work and products.

I used to charge £15 for a back, but found whilst some men took me ten minutes others were taking up to 45.

Once I implemented charging by the time rather than the treatment I got even busier. I charge a minimum 15 block regardless, and if I oly take 5 minutes then I can do further areas such as brows or they can pay and go.

It just gives the guy more flexibility in regards to what and where he wants waxing. I found men used to think that they HAD to have the back, sack and crack wax as it was so were not calling up to book. When I advertised the £15 for 15 minutes of waxing I found my phone was red hot.

Obviously please be careful with wording in an advert so as not to give the idea of anything else they think may be on offer.

X

Oh And dont presume that your the only person offering this service. The gay community is often very closed and takes a lot to break into it. Once you do then they all recommend you and follow suit.

Pick up the gay magazines on offer in the local bars & clubs and see who is offering this as they usually advertise in their own magazines to each other. My partner works with a lot of gay people so I know how tricky it is to get into the pink pound sector. X

Some good advise there, thank you very much

Yes I am trained in waxing. Must update profile!!
But admittidly only a short while although I do love it and find it very easy and customer are very pleased with results.

As I said I am thinking longer term so am in no rush to start anything. I agree with the word of mouth senario and have researched into the local community and it appears Brighton is the most popular place to visit for such services but it's still 30 mins away. Guys I have spoken to would much rather have a local service than combine a wax with going out for the night!!

Still, lots to think about and your comments have helped.

Hi,

I spoke to Kim Lawless on here last night regarding waxing and she offers training in male waxing if you contact her i'm sure she'd be more than happy to help.
