A client rung me this week saying she has no cuticle left and she is going on holiday, but she has some baby oil. She wanted to know whether she could apply baby oil instead just incase she can't get any cuticle oil. I told her to try and get some because i don't know what baby oil will do to the L&P. Could someone tell me would this affect the enhansements in anyway.

Baby oil/Mineral oil/petrolatum (petroleum) based products will cause enhancements to lift.

A client one time refused to buy cuticle oil because of the expense  and decided to use baby oil when I had ALREADY advised her not to.
Her enhancements lifted so much, by the time she came back to see me, it was like creating a whole new set.

She never did it again.

Baby oil is designed to be a barrier whereas cuticle is designed to sink into the skin.

baby oil will encourage lifting of the enhancement so try to ensure she doesn't apply it to her cuticles as this will cause you a lot of work when she returns for her next appointment

Hey guys, it is a common misconception that oils cause nail enhancements to lift. Olive oil, baby oil, mineral oils, etc... do not cause lifting as they are far too large of a molecular weight to penetrate the bond between the product and the natural nail. Heck, SolarOil can't even cause lifting!

Saying that... if there is already lifting, oil can help facilitate the process. However the pros of a small molecular weight oil (not baby oil, mineral oil, olive oil, and other non professional oils) far outweigh the cons.

HTHs!

I have never heard on a mineral oil lifting nails if they ain't lifting already....mineral oils sit on the skin, they don't penetrate anything so I can't see how they would make nails lift.
IMO the only thing that will generally make nails lift is if they are badly applied in the first place!
