For me, it's helpful that I don't do thick nails. Mine are around the thickness of a credit card at the free edge. This way, I don't have a lot of filing to do during a rebalance. I did a rebal on a gal once who had the most AWFUL, thick nails (maybe an eighth of an inch at the apex, and waaaayyy too thick for me to handfile.) I had to start soaking them puppies off, and it ended up taking me over TWO HOURS to finish her! I was kinda irritated.
