Hi all,

Am hoping to start my own business soon but have really bad psoriasis which is so unsightly. I want to maintain professionalism and I have a salon top to wear, however this is short sleeved. I was thinking of wearing a long sleeved top underneath it. Would this be acceptable? Or does anyone else have any tips?

Thanks.

Hiya, yes it's totally acceptable! You have to feel comfortable to work well x

I have psoriasis on my arms and wear a long sleeve cotton top under my tunic, looks fine and I find it more comfortable than cardigans.
I am on the lookout for shirt dresses that I can wear instead for summer.

Don't let it hold you back

I too have psoriasis and just wear a tunic, if clients ask what it is I tell them, you will be surprised how many clients have it to.
Saying that ...I'd never get my bare legs out so I guess it's just whatever you feel comfortable in

I have psoriasis, I have a very large patch on the palm of my hand!!!! Nothing I can do about it :( can't cover it :( if clients ask I tell them but generally clients are more interested in pampering themselves and relaxing.

Please try not to worry about it, psoriasis doesn't determine whether you are a good beauty therapist or not xxx

Thanks guys! I won't brave having them on show so long tops under my tunic it is.
Loving the idea of a shirt dress for summer! xx

I would say that anyone that queries your standard as a therapist due to having psoriasis needs a tweezers in the eye! But that's from a fellow "sufferer" who up until a year ago had a 50% body covering. Speaking to customers everyday was a nightmare, my hands and arms were so tight and unsightly to the odd narrow minded person I encountered who thought I had the plague! Can I ask how long you've had it? I was referred to the skin specialists at my hospital and am on methotrexate - I am totally clear now apart from the odd spot I get when stressed! I am not meaning to sound patronising at all, the problem with psoriasis is that it's not a skin disease and an immunity problem so different people react differently to meds but, as you can tell, I'm passionate about awareness (as it ended my marriage and I've spent many a year during school battling people who picked on my sister who has it!) any help please let me know xxx

Haha, love the tweezer to the eye comment! I've been on methotrexate twice, 2nd time via injection method but the side effects were too much and I've come off it. But being on methotrexate has been the ONLY time of being clear.
Hopefully with my new change of job direction it will bring less stress (after initial start up!) and maybe I'll be able to see a difference :) xx

I'm the same second time on methotrexate and injecting it and I'm starting to get same side effects as when taking it oraly. I'm clear most of the time but having to take the injection due to arthritis caused by the psoriasis.

Due to psoriatic arthritis my sis is actually in hospital at this moment having had her second hip replacement (age 34) and I think I am just sooo lucky that methotrexate has treated me really well. It's sad that there are so many drugs out there but we can't try them until others fail, my mum (yes a family of psoriasis lovers!) is on embrol injections. Stress is a major factor, so I say - let's all go on holiday and eat chocolate  not being flippant but I've found trying to make light of my conditions makes things easier than stressing xxx

I have psoriasis on my arms and no one has ever questioned me if they did i would answer honestly dont be ashamed or embarrased you cannot help it just thinking a long sleeved may be a bit hot in the summer but if it makes you feel more comfortable then wear one it does NOT look un professional :)
