Hi my daughter has now decided on a beauty coarse help there are so many ?

Your daughter won’t be employable without level three, and she’ll need a good mix of skills. Training in mostly massage, or mostly make-up or mostly nails is a bit limiting.

I’d suggest a foundation level 2 Beauty course that covers facials, nails, waxing, lash and brow treatments, makeup and ideally a bit of massage for her first year. In her second year she can specialise in an area of interest.

If she wants to prepare for a career in beauty, as well as level two beauty she’ll also need a level three facial qualification and level three electrical treatments for the face and body. She’ll also need either a good range of level three complimentary therapies (reflexology, aromatherapy, hot stone massage, Indian Head massage) or level three nail art and extensions. This will take another 2 years. Any course in college that she doesn’t do, she’ll regret later on and private education is expensive - so now is the time to invest time and effort.

She also needs a good standard of general education - there’s a lot of biology and science in beauty and she’ll need confident mental arithmetic. The industry is moving towards degree level training and the pay for those with only 2-3 years of post 16 education is about the same as shop work. It’s therefore very important that your daughter reads industry magazine articles every month and that she has the GCSE grades that will qualify her for Uni. There are some great Uni courses in Beauty, Wellness, Make-up and fashion styling and Spa management that she might want to do in the future.
