:?:Hi Geeks!
Just wanted to know how you feel about all these Beauty, Nail & Hair salons popping up everywhere I rent above a hairdressers where I run my own business, but the thing is the Hairdresser that runs downstairs has a nail bar that she opened last year behind my back while I was on holiday...! I have now found out that her daughter is now doing nails all of a sudden and I know she has no training!! so I want to contact someone about this so that the nail bar is spot checked, any ideas geeks:?: By the way geeks I couldn't care less that she has this nail bar now as I know its not doing too great, and I'm a firm believer what goes around comes around ,but it just annoys:grr: me that people get away with doing our trade without the qualifications, so that also means they have no insurance...! We work hard to get our qualifications so what would you geeks do:?: Thanks:D

Regulation sounds wonderful in theory but it doesn't come cheap, and considering all the licenses & insurances we already have to pay for as therapists I'm not sure I'd want another one!

Also, to be honest it's doubtful anything but a voluntary regulatory body could/would be implemented, as has currently happened with complementary therapies, which doesn't really help as there is no requirement to sign up & with so many competing "bodies" you'd have to choose who to go with! In many ways professional membership already provides all that voluntary regulation does.

Hi
It totally get where you are coming from with the whole "not qualified" to carry out the treatment point. It annoys the hell out of me. We all work hard for our qualifications and then there is the time involved practicing to perfect what we have learnt before we are let loose on the public. Not far from me there is a salon offering various services that they have no qualification or insurance in, what can be done though?

There are lots of qualified therapists out there who are clueless about carrying out treatments safely and haven't studied the theory side of things to the extent that they should. So I imagine that unqualified people who don't know exactly how complicated and detailed background knowledge can be, may find themselves in hot water when the time comes when something goes wrong and they dont have insurance or a qualification. It's disturbing how many people out there are resorting to sueing whoever they can to get a bit of extra cash. So therapists working in this way are stupidly making themselves an easey target for the vultures out there. I'm sure they will be sorry when they dont have any cover for legal expenses and compensation and have to dish out what money they have made.

That must be really irritating :( and you are in the same building? I'd definitely make the most of any window space you have available to make sure any potential clients that you have advertised for are coming to you and not her. Maybe an ad board outside specifying that you are an experienced professional and who you are insured with? If she is not qualified she will inevitably have complaints and I bet they will come to you to fix her work. Stick at it and make sure you make it obvious on any advertisements that you are above the hairdressers and not in it. That is really awful though, have you thought about moving? I guess the main thing is making sure you isolate yourself from them in every way on the front of the shop, us different colours to make it obvious you are a separate business? xx
