I have been looking for a beauty room to rent so that I can do beauty treatments instead of just makeup which I currently do. I have now found a possible room not too far from where I live, my problem is that the salon already does spray tanning, which means that I wont be able to do this.

What would you do? Would you take it or not? Tanning would be one of my best treatments profit wise and I am a little worried that I may struggle without it. I did plan on doing the following if I found a room: Tanning, manicures and pedicures, facials, waxing, lash/brow tinting and makeup. I am qualified in all these treatments.

Any advice or experiences of similar would be helpful.

Hi

I am in the same situation as you rent a room and the hairdressers already have their own fabulous stand in spray cubicle.

I just do all my holistic and beauty treatments in the room I rent, and do a mobile spray tanning and beauty service when I am quite in the salon or at night when required.

I did three spray tans the other night made £60 so you could still make a profit doing it mobile if someone wants a spray tan in the day just book that time out of your beauty room do it mobile, get the job done, return to the beauty room carry on with other clients booked in,

its a simple as that :)

Hi Emerald,

From what you're saying spray tanning is one of your main things to do and in this beauty room you wouldn't be able to do it so really I wouldn't go for it if I were you. I opened my salon in Nov and the reaction to the spray tanning has been wow and definitely word about good tanning at a good price spreads very quickly and is a way of introducing customers to other treatments. With the current economic climate you won't struggle to get a place to rent so consider looking elsewhere... I know you prob keen to get started but hold off and you'll find the place thats right for you and the range of treatments you plan to offer.

Hope this helps

Ps tanning is just a lovely and handy treatment to do I would hate not to be able to offer it

Hi

Are you in a position to offer mobile spray tan parties? Perhaps you could do the salon on the daytime and offer tan parties at night?

I may try and find a hair salon who may allow me to do tanning one day a week so that I dont loose out on the money from this treatment. The place im going to look at seems like it would be good apart from the tanning issue. I will just have to see, and aim to be the best waxer or facialist in the area then I can build up regulars through those treatments. Just trying to plan everything now before I go and look.

Well, I went to see the beauty room yesterday, it needs sorting out though, the lady is going to re-do the ceiling and put a wooden floor in if I decide to take it. She said I can do tanning there but as they already have a spray tan room set up I would use that, they use Urban Tan so I would have to probably buy some of this instead of my sienna solution. The owner and the nail girl seem nice and they said they will help me with getting some clients as they will let all their existing clients know. Rent is £50 per week and can do as many or as little hours/days as I want. What do you think of this? SHould I go for it?

£50 is very good.
They seem keen to want to help you and you can also do your tanning.

I would def go for it!

I think I would probably do some more talking with the owner, £50 per week sounds really good to me, I think I'd chat with her about some kind of trial period, maybe 3 months, to see how it goes, also about who provides products, is electric, water, etc included or extra, etc etc, but if you're getting good 'vibes' about this place, and as she says you can do your tans there, I'd probably go for it!

Good luck with whatever you decide hun:hug:

Thanks ditzy, she said it includes all rates water electricity etc. I have to buy my own products and equipment but to be honest I have most of the equipment anyway. I think I will phone her tommorow and tell her I am interested in taking on the room. I have set aside some money for marketing and also have a group on facebook for my makeup and spray tans so I will use this also to send info out to my fans once I get ready to open.

I am getting good vibes, but I am also scared as I need to make this work.

Hi Hun,

£50 is amazing, that's very cheap you will have to go for that plus they sound like they are willing to put themselves out for you!!

One thing, from experiance I found that allowing their reception to do your bookings isn't always the best have a look at the demos for the company below they very cheap and I found it's cut my calls down and all my bookings are right! They even give you a FREE trial.
