I have just completed almost 4 months of facials in college, the last two months of which we were having 2 facials a week (once a week in the months before) and now my skin is just terrible.

I never ever had skin problems and rarely even got a spot but since these facials Im having constant breakouts, verrry dry skin and my skin has gotten so sensitive to anything.

Its mostly the spots that annoy me and I'm feeling quite down and paranoid about them as Im doing make up now and cannot stand someone having to look at my face up close especially like this.

When I get a Spot it takes so long to go away..the red mark & lump will stay there looking like a papule for ages, can someone please tell me how to get rid of these red marks & help repair my skin! :(

What was your skin care routine before the facials

To be very honest it was pretty minimal..moisturise, cleanse the odd time but of course I would wash with water. I was terrible with skincare but I never had problems, maybe it's my skin reacting to something its not used to but I just wanna know how to get rid now :(

Thats probably why as the cleansing and scrub cleans out your pores i found my skin was alot better when having facials since i already have oily skin it takes time for skin to get back to normal

I've being having the same problem - was having excessive facials at college (never thought there could be such a thing!) and then trying a range of 'qualifying' products on myself.

I've now got some Eve Taylor soothing and all is well in the world again! :)

Hi Sarah

What skin type where you before all these facials?

It sounds like you're super sensitised and dehydrated. You need to repair your natural barrier. I would stop exfoliating for a couple of weeks and add in a hydrating masque or a hyaluronic serum under your moisturiser.

What moisturiser are you currently using? If your skin is sensitised the a moisturiser that is oil free or too rich (for dry skin) can make it worse. Make sure you're using one for sensitive skin.

You should also increase your water intake and get plenty of fruit and veg. If you can get a few goes in on the treadmill as well that will do your skin no end of good.

The main thing is that your skin is thirsty. Water water water! X

Ive been told by an aesthetician that facials can spread bacteria. Im not qualified in facials. Just thought that I'd share this

Thanks everyone for answering!

My skin type before the facials was quite normal, a bit dehydrated but had no problems really.. Thats why I hate it so much how it is now and hate even my make up reacting differently & having to worry about topping it up now all the time!

I have stopped exfoliating and I bought the glamglow masque and do about once or twice a week. I just found a skin hydrating masque at home so Il definately start using that!

I do also need to drink more water..I just want these lumps & redness gone! :(

If u have a hard time drinking normal water try a flavoured one (lemon n lime is a fave of mine) and sip it throughout the day. Dont buy other drinks or have them in your bag. Just keep the water to hand and u will get into the habit of just sipping. Best thing i ever did when we practiced facials everyday in college. Joined the gym n started sweating it out on the treadmill, couple that with witch hazel or tea tree for the pustules and my skin has never looked better. The key is keeping the skin clean and well balanced plus the body hydrated and flushed through. Avoid touching your face too unless to clean it of course and keeping your hair right off it at all times will help stop spreading bacteria by minimising scratching or rubbing where hair has tickled your skin. Hope this helps x

This is brilliant! Thanks so much I will try this because I do need to drink water a lot more :) x

In my opinion, it sounds like your skin has been overstimulated, which can increase sebum production which could cause spots, also if your skin is getting dryer then that can go against your skins ability to slough off dead skin cells which again will clog pores. Cant they modify your treatments for you at college? Go for sensitive products all the way. Use spf in the daytime if you allready don't, try applying a little bit of tea trea oil onto spots too as this is an anti inflammatory and will stave off bacteria. I do believe that a few spots are common when you start a new regime but remember that skin will always try to find its equilibrium.

Also persistent breakouts are classed as acne . I've seen a dermatologist on more than one occasion for my acne and he said there is no cause to it. However a lot of l contraceptions have acne as a side effect so maybe consider that? I would also suggest visiting a dermatologist. They will give you medication that will completely eliminate it!

Yeah its definately been overstimulated. We have finished facials now thank god but now its the facials aftermath!

I will apply the teatree oil anyways and see how I get on. I wouldn't say its bad enough to be acne or anything to be looked at its just that because Im not really used to this I dont know how long it should take to go away & for my skin to clear :(
Thank you both!

You don't understand how mild acne can be, I only had a like 4 reoccurring spots that weren't that bad and that was classed as mild acne

Go to the docs who can refer you to a dermatologist or if you can afford it then pay privately to see a dermatologist . Who better to help you with skin problems than a skin specialist?

I found that microdermabrasions caused me to breakout .. I'm sure facials just spread bacteria
