Hi folks

Am a new beauty therapy student, training at local college.

With 20 students in the group, our manicure tutor is struggling to give each of us much attention.

This week's manicure class was on cuticle removal, care etc. We were told to wrap hoof sticks, orange sticks in cotton wool for working on the cuticle massage, removal and so on.

Dearie me, we all struggled, we either had too much cotton wool or too little and spent more time trying to get this right than using the cuticle cream, remover etc.

Can you experienced manicurists offer your tips on the easiest way to do this/ I'm sure we're just missing a trick, and once someone explains it we'll be sorted:).

Look forward to hearing from folks....jtp x

I would just practice. Split a cotton pad and using the slanted end of the orange stick, tease out a strand of cotton wool from the rough side. Pull the strand gently, rolling the stick until you have the end covered for use.

It takes a while to be able to do it quickly but once mastered its an easy job, promise!!

Just try to get the orange stick under the very top layer of cotton wool, then gently twist. Thats how I do it.

I was told to dampen the end of the stick - it works a treat as the cotton wool is attracted to it like a magnet

Me too :) Just dipped in the bowl they're soaking in (although there was the temptation to stick it in my mouth!)

hi my suggestion is, that it is like making a piece of candyfloss. xx

That's how they teach it in college, I learned the same way, you need to continue with this method as the other geeks have described above to help you get the cotton on your stick.

When you get into the real world of nails you will discover cuticle remover and metal tools, and what a difference it will make!

Good luck!

Dampen the end of the stick, pull your cotton pad half apart. Put in the stick and twist. Start by aiming to get a little bit on and you can aways go back for more. I was rubbish at this when i first started! It's just like anything hun, just practice.
I cant believe the tutor has no time for each of you, that is awful!
