When I was training to become a Beauty Therapist (including Massage) one of the key points that we were told was that our nails should be clean, short and definitely varnish free.

If I train to offer Nail Technology as well does anyone know whether this is still the case as obviously you would want to show your nails off to their best advantage to encourage clients to have theirs done too.

Just a thought!

When you are training in nail technology you will be expected to have them enhancement free,
once you are qualified and working, if you work in a salon it will be up to your boss,
if you work for yourself it will be up to you,
i work for myself and always have my enhancements on to show the clients what is available,
i do offer some beauty treatments but i do not offer facials or massage as i would not feel comfortable doing these treatments with long enhancements on hth

When i worked in a salon i was allowed to wear enhancements so long as i kept them short and was able to do my beauty treatments without causing injury to the client. (which i never did)
As much as i love my nails i cant cope with long and even have short enhancements (ask lou) lol

personally, I find my natural nails much sharper than enhancements, if you have them natural / neutral and quite short, I can't see it would pose a problem?

I'm hoping to be on a beauty therapy course at college in september, hope they will let me have my nails enhanced, as I do nails as part of my mobile business and feel the same that I want the customer to see what's available. Obviously will take them off when we cover the subject, so that others can practise on me!

when this subject came up in class when i did my course, a couple of us had enhancements on an our tutor said that if you are doing facials, it's unwise in case the client develops a reaction to what you've got on your nails. You can get away with it with waxing cos you can wear gloves.

Wonder if anyone has ever had that happen??

Highly unlikely as cured product is not a skin sensitiser........ Uncured product can cause skin reactions but we don't wear uncured product on our nails.

hth's

I do probably 75% beauty and 25% nails. I keep my nails natural and short and just try to ensure that they are always nicely manicured.
