I went along today, did some shopping, ordered some product and saved money. Yay!!

But why is a "Professional trade only" show still selling stands to:

1) Tarot readers!
2) Chocolate fountain company!
3) Companies that just pile professional products (eg Tigi) high and shift at heavily discounted prices - cheaper then standard trade!
4) A stand selling cuddly toys!

For the numbers of people there the aisles were far too small, you couldn't actually talk to people on the stands if you could get to them.

Though at least most of the tat stalls were restricted to the left side of the hall and around the top left corner.

The layout of the Holistic Health hall just made no sense!

If I wasn't going to make savings of over a hundred pounds I wouldn't go. If the companies do the same pricing over the phone on Show Dates next year I'll phone them instead of going.

So far from my experiences of trade shows this one really is the tackiest! Really don't get a feel that it is that 'professional'. Am I alone in this?

Do we have too many beauty shows now? This year we have had / have:

Professional Beauty London
Professional Beauty Manchester
Beauty UK
Beauty Olympia

Next year we have Total Beauty Excel the weekend before Professional Beauty London.

Surely at least one has got to go!

The biggest bug bear for me today was the stand that was selling CND and EzFlow products (albeit a small selection) when I know for a fact they are not official distributors!

I have to totally agree with you on this, I couldnt believe there was tarot cards in the beauty part, and with regards to the aisles, my partner repeatedly got pushed and shoved all over the place! I couldnt even get to some of the stands I was interested in :(.

Another thing that bugged me I dont know about you, but on my ticket it said strictly no under 16s, where I saw at least 6 kids. Dont get me wrong, some therapists may have been down by their babysitter etc but find it annoying when kids were walking around picking the products up etc.

Rant over now lol

:)

I am off to beauty uk today i have never been to a show before which seems mad as i have been in the industry for a few years now. Is there many deals? I am hoping it may have quietened down 2day with it being the second day. Also this may sound stupid but do you have to pay in cash or can you do it by card?
Thanks xx

If you look at the website it has a list of exhibitors and there is a link to the show leaflet with all the deals.

I couldn't go this year as I was ill yesterday and still don't feel 100% today, plus Id have to take my baby with me so even if I was allowed to take a pushchair in im not sure people would appreciate me driving over their toes ;)

I think the NEC show has always been the trashiest, im sure I saw on the list that they had a RIO stand ???!!!

I dont think there are too many shows.I think it's good to have different ones in different areas at different times because it will appeal to individuals needs,i.e when they can get to a show, when they need to go to a show and locality, however I was surprised at some of the rubbish stalls though.

The perfume stall that was selling random perfumes, buy one and get 4 or 5 free. The lovely handbag and jewellery stalls, the tarot card stall, where the lady pounced on me to see if I wanted a free reading....Uh no thanks:twisted:I just didn't get why they were there. It was like a market place with the perfume stall holder shouting out at people.I had never even heard of any of the perfumes she was selling.

I didn't see any children, but I was focused on what I wanted.I was dissapointed on what little they had there though.I got most of what I wanted but I wouldn't go to that show again.

ps at least I got to see the Lava Shells in the holistic hall, and I entered a free draw for training with them...fingers crossed now.

Thanks for the tip off about the preview of the leaflet. I hope i get lots of things while im there . xxx

I think your right, having shows in different parts of the country is good! I forgot Scottish Beauty on the list above.

I guess, my comment is mostly about Professional Beauty in Olympia, and the weekend before the new TotalBeauty at Excel. So its going to be interesting to see how attendance is affected. TotalBeauty already have some big names there looking at the website.

Oooh Total Beauty here I come lol.I just cant get enough of it all:D I think there was such a lack in stands yesterday that a lot of people will be saving themselves for the big ones in future, lesson learnt

Beauty UK really can attract a lot of the big boys! Sometimes I think Dermalogica and Fake Bake will turn up to the opening of an envelope!

Well i was quite disappointed!
I wanted to buy an electric couch and thought i would buy some other bits and bobs whilst i was there and save me going to the warehouse.
Some of the stuff i wanted to buy was a lot more expensive than what i usually pay.
I got some good bargains on some more lashes though which made up for it.
I did buy my couch but i had to question them as to why it was £20 more at the show than it was in their catalogue. Something to do with delivery charges but still quite misleading. It was vat free though so still saved quite a bit.
2 perfume stalls, handbag stalls, jewellery stalls, chocolate fountain stall, tarot reading-had a car boot feeling about it :(
If it wasn't 35 mins away then i wouldn't have bothered going.
My daughter and nephew both got piercings though so they were happy!

mmmm my friend had a stall at a small beauty show in Norwich she had a small 3x3 stall, it cost her an amazing £1100 with the vat and the leccy....

The prices are a joke..., there was people who had got them at the last minute and paid £500, word got around that some had paid half price, as they had waited till the last knockings before they booked.

The next year they could not get anyone to book as people knew what was going on, (show did not even go ahead!)

You see so many spaces at Exel and the others and they just shrink the hall, its greed as the prices are just too high, lower them and fill them... If not loose out.

Me too! I've also looked at their website now and seen there is no-one else around me doing it so doing the training is a definite possibility later in the year -depending how the year goes!

I only live 30 mins away and needed a few bits from Beauty Express so ordered my stuff vat -free and had a mooch around.

Enjoyed the chance to chat with Ruth Mills again and brainstorm some more ideas.

I found it crowded - the "tat" stalls are there for the students I think - they certainly seemed to be the ones crowding round them today.

Also the show gave me a chance to have a go at Konad stamping rather than just watching it and to get some new couch covers from Majestic (love their quality!)

So all in all, I think I would go again - but only because it is close to home and I can ignore the frustrations of crowds!

I found it very boring and really was disappointed. The amount of times I heard "do you own your own salon" and if you said no they would not continue their speel I thought was very rude. If you said yes they were over you like a rash. I really don't enjoy the fakes of our industry.

I did wonder that when I saw the chocolate fountain company in the list of exhibitors - but have since come to the conclusion that they are very useful for when you've got the munchies after trudging round the show/manning a stand all day ;)

Well I have to say i found it quite refreshing at beauty uk this year as it did have a variety of stands unlike the last few shows ive been to which seemed to be predominantly tanning and lash extensions. But as some one has all ready commented the isles were far too narrow and yes it does bug me every time when you see toddlers and pushchairs when an event is supposed to be for over 16s.

I also agree that there seems to be too many shows London way when we in the Midlands and up north only get one. We will give Manchester another look this year but if it is as poor as it was last year then we wont be bothering again.
