If you asked consumers what they wanted the beauty industry to offer in 2014, you could probably guess that top answer. Unsurprisingly, according to a recent survey, fat-busting treatments were top of the request list followed somewhat randomly by chin implants.

But, when it comes to non-surgical anti-ageing treatments, 2014 looks set to be full of weird, wonderful and downright bonkers treatments.

First up, comes an exciting development in the wrinkle-busting trend. The popularity of Botox shows that there are plenty of people willing to go to great lengths to fight those lines. There are plenty more people who are desperate to eliminate the signs of ageing but not fully committed to injecting themselves with toxins.

Enter lovera. Lovera is a treatment that uses liquid nitrous oxide to temporarily freeze the nerves that move the muscles in the face. The effects can last up to four months and, as it's toxin-free, it's likely to appeal to a huge demographic who were previously put off by the toxicity of Botox.

Cryolipolysis is also going to be big news in the beauty industry. Known as 'fat freezing' the procedure basically uses cold rather than heat to break down fat cells. The procedure has been around for ages but new technology has made it more effective and pain free.

When it comes to skin treatments, Vitamin A is going to be making a huge comeback this year. First used to treat acne as a prescription only treatment 80 years ago, it has largely been ignored in recent years with peptides, anti-oxidants and retinol overshadowing it. However, brands are creating new formulations with Vitamin A meaning that this works better than ever.

2014 looks set to be a big year for the beauty industry.

Until then...geek on!
