hair is dyed red but the last few colorings the hair has gone darker. want to get it back redder, but without stripping. would a good clarifying shampoo used prior to the next coloring help in trying to get the hair a bit redder/ brighter? if so what kind do you recommend and how often and when prior to the next coloring should it be used?
thanks! :)

With hair colouring, it’s not like painting over a brown wall with several coats of white paint until it looks almost white.
You can’t apply a lighter colour to the hair without removing the darker colour first. There are different methods to removing old colour depending on the type of tint originally used, so bleach might be best or it might not. It’s more important to choose the correct removal method for optimum results.

If the original colour was a vibrant shade of red, then it’s possibly a direct dye rather than an oxidised tint and these work best on pre-lightened hair. However, some colour houses such as Goldwell offer vibrant shades using permanent colour products so maybe look for a Goldwell appointed salon?
