I am practicing for my assessment which will be in September.

I done a set of gel overlay and after 4 days they peeled off.

Where am I going wrong??

Heres what I did:

Prep - dual cleanse, cuticle work, file, more dual cleanse (everything needed to prep)

Exec Base - Cure 4 min - then buff
Clear - cure 2 min
Colour - cure 2 min
Coulour - cure 2 min
S Gel - cure 4 min

Where am i going wrong??

Thanks,

Hi
Did you do the overlays on yourself or on someone else? Biosculpture does peel in certain circumstances, for example, if you dont wear gloves whilst using chemical cleaning products it may peel off.

I've noticed lately that alot of new bio users are dual cleansing? Do you think you are leaving the nails too wet with the cleanser?

Try not to use excutive base as it had been proven to be prolematic. Wait until your cleanser is dry and there is no residue of it on the nail as well.

I shouldnt use exec base before i gel? I was told to do this as it speeds up gel removal? Shall I not bother with that.

Yea I use a lot of dual clense to keep the nail plate clean and dust free.

I dont them on someone else. SHe probably has been washing up etc - but not too much that the nails shouldnt last. They can last through that cant they?

I also done them on myself on thurs and they are starting to peel today so have lasted a bit longer but not long enough.

How long should they last. Do you book a client in every 2 weeks or so to have them removed and put back on?

Thanks for your advice

Sound as if you have slight teething problems - dont forget that you can call Biosculpture up to discuss any issues.

Exec base does speed up removal, but if makes the gel lifts.

Are you capping the free edge of the nail? You need to do this as gel pulls back.

You should be doing infills 3 weeks after the client had their overlays done. However some clients' nails do grow very quickly and might want to come back before 3 weeks.

You need to give your clients good after care advice, like wearing gloves for house chores etc.

Take your time, dont rush and you will get everything right.

So neither of you do the exec base bit as this may make them lift?

I am doing her nails again 2moro so I will try without this time. And yes hopefully it is just teething problems!

And maybe i do need to take more care when capping the nail to make sure I am covering the whole area.

.... I only have just over a month to get this right! Havent even started to practice my sculptures yet! Think I need to be 100% with the overlay first!

Hiya

I've just done my training course in Chelmsford and the trainer said to only use exec base on people who have problems with there nails, as it could cause the gel to lift.

If you want to practice on each other let me know.

your application sounds fine, and your curing for the correct time.

Are you lightly 'removing the shine' from the nail?

Is this just one ONE person or everyone you try it on?

also...make SURE the nail is TOTALLY DRY before you put any gel on it (ie not wet from the prep products)

Hey! Ive been using bio sculpture for over three years and would absolutely not use any other product. It certainly sounds like your flooding the nail with cleanser / steriliser. U should really only need to cleanse and steralise your nail once when you start. To remove any dust you should be using a nail brush. It's okay to use the Executive Base but make sure you buff off the shiney layer when it's cured under the lamp. Also I find that not using the oil at the end helps as if there are any flaws the oil will seep under and cause them to lift. Putting oil on the nails when they're finished just makes them look better but it could cause problems, especially for clients with naturally oily nail beds. Instead I use a hand cream and do a little hand massage, they love it and it gets the blood flowing and gives the skin a fresher look. Theres loads more advice I can give but am in a rush to go out. Will get back to you but please please please just practice and remember to check with the toothpick to make sure no gel is touching skin before curing. Bio Sculpture is by no means the first gel I tried but I have 100% confidence in it, I even give clients a guarantee incase of lifting. Any No! I do not work for them :) Let me know how you get on x

Two things to also check.

1/ If you are using Executive base, apply only in a small square in the middle of the nail. Allow to dry fully, and buff. If still wet when you apply the gel, it will lfit quickly. I do use Exec base with quite e few cleints, but I let my inital consulation decide whther tI will use it or not.

2/ Make sure the nail and your bush are both completely dry after you have dual cleansed......any residual dampnes in either can cause lifting.

Thanks for everyones response you are really helping.

So I do not need to use the exec base on EVERYONE jus people with dry/flaky nails? If not then after prep I just apply the gel.

I will make sure I check the nail plate is dry and dust free - I was sure I was doing this but will take extra care to make sure.

If there are anymore tips please let me know - I like the product and have heard of great results from people that have them done so will just practice practice practice until I am good!!!

Hi Hayley

Have you tried only doing 2 nails at a time ?
I apply the gel on 2 nails, cure while doing 2 on the other hand. This helps with the gel not having chance to shrink back.

I too (naughty like Minkus !) do not always use Exec Base. I have done but to be honest i never have a problem with removal, and as Zingara pointed out only use a small square in the centre of the nail.

When i first started i was always practicing on myself and they wouldn't last on me either ! i think it's alot to do with (personally) brush control and pulling it over the free edge enough and capping - its hard to do that on yourself when you're inexperiened i find.
Also when i did a clear overlay on my friend she was saying that hers were lifting after a few days, i was distraught thinking what had i done wrong but it turns out she's a picker !!! aaaaaaghhh soooo annoying because she doesn't admit it and it makes me feel like i can't do it. Having said that i did my husbands aunt a colour overlay 4 weeks ago, she works in a bank using a keyboard all day and hers are still looking great (she uses the matching polish to "fill in" the growth area until she can see me again)

Have you got the Bio DVD ? i bought it recently and it has helped me with a few things. at £30 its a bit pricey but its something you can go back to time and time again. The demonstartions are nice and slow and after watching it i find i use a similar pace which makes my applications neater and cleaner with more lasting results.
All part of being new to it, lots to learn and the only way to learn is by experiencing the mistakes !

Good luck

Just to add some comments to what has already been said.

I never use exec base - I just didnt find any benefit from it so left it out. Where is the lifting/peeling starting - at the free edge or around the cuticle edge? If it is from the free edge it is your capping, if it is around the cuticle edge then it could be a few things, like something left on the nail plate - cleanser, dust, oil etc etc.

Make sure that when you apply your gel that you arent applying it too thinly and that there is not gel touching the cuticle wall. One trick taught by my trainer (which you may already be doing) is to run a cocktail stick around your cuticle edge before curing.

Are you practicing on lots of people or just one person? Some people do have the peeling no matter what you do, so try to practice on others too as much as you can.

Dont panic - you will get there and good luck.

Incidentally one point worth making here is that in the right circumstances Executive Base is actually a very useful product!

There's been countless times where I've wanted to 'try something out' or practise on a live model, but they either haven't got time for a full set, or don't want to keep them for any reason.

I simply apply executive base to an relatively unprepped nail, allow to dry, don't buff, apply a thin layer of gel, cure and continue with the enhancement or overlay. The gel pretty much peels off the nail after that, saving the need for acetone-based removal. Any remaining exec base can be wiped off with polish remover.

Great for things like temporary photographic nails, comp practise, any practise...especially on hubby!

i'd go along with jex and recomend the 2 fingers at a time. i found it really helped me when i had peeling from the free edge.

Hiya,

I always use executive base, and have done for a year and half that ive been trained in bio, i only put a tiny bit on the middle of the nail not on the whole nail and ive not had any probs.
Make sure that your brush is dust free and is dry from when you have cleaned it, this will not help.
Let us know how you get on.
