hi all, i am a qualified nail tech but trained with OPI. i've got fed up of doing my nails myself and it taking hrs so decided to pay to get them done!

one of the beauty therapists at the salon i work in also works privately so asked her to do my nails on my day off. anyway, she uses biosculpture and they look lovely, but........

she didn't do any prep at all (well she buffed nail surface but no cuticle removal etc) - surely this will make the gel more susceptable to lifting? also a few days later i noticed the white on a couple of nails (they're P&W) was fading a bit - any idea why?

i've just noticed that my middle finger on my right hand is lifting at the free edge - it's got a tiny little bubble sort of sticking up and is coming away at the edge.

the final thing is she told me i can use any acetone free nail varnish remover, but my nails feel kind of sticky after i've used it, is this meant to happen?

can anyone shed any light at all? i'm a bit embarrassed to say anything to her yet in case she gets funny about it so just wanted a little more info first! thanks xxxx

I use Bio and was trained to always remove any cuticle - if any trace is left behind it will cause lifting.

Sometimes, if the french white is applied to thick, it will bubble like you described and then lift. When applied correctly, Bio does not lift.

I know Bio recommends you specifically use their polish remover - when I use it, it actually brings the shine up again - if it's slightly sticky, sounds like the gel doesn't like that remover. I would use your sanitizer (if it doesn't contain acetone like Scrub Fresh) to swipe it and see if the sticky goes away.

As far as the white fading, I haven't seen that. I have however seen white, and clear for that mattter, discolour (yellow or gray) after a week or so - could this be the problem?

I get what you mean about doing your own nails - I did mine today and I wanted to give up after only one hand was done. But I'm too picky to let someone else do it!

ah thanks for that. they do feel better now i've left them a while after using the remover. they're still super shiney, just felt a bit sticky but slightly better now. i did try my sanitiser the other day when it happened but made them feel worse!!

i might have to speak to her about this lifting one though otherwise i'll prob pick it off!! xx

No picking allowed!!!
It might be nice to let her know about the lifting ones - she will likely value the feedback and then she has the opportunity to fix them.

I have just taken on Bio and did the training yesterday.

There is a lot of prep involved within the procedure
She should of started by cleaning nails, then filing into shape, cuticle work, after a pink cuticle stone, executive base coat then buff nail plate gently.

She should of reccommended you home care of a boi sculpture gel nail polish remover, cuticle oil and top coat. Every week the nails should be wiped free of any polish and new top coat applied or cracking will occur..

Sorry hun but it sounds as if she has only given you half a job:mad:

This is basic procedure some bio tech's myself included do not use executive base as it causes the gell to lift on some clients.

Also the cracking is the top coat NOT the gel. If it looks like hair line cracks on the gel it is the top coat once removed and renewed they will look good as new.

I would only advise the bio polish remover as using other products can cause product breakdown and lifting.

My method:

Prep work using cnd cuticle remover washed off.
File and white block nails dust and wipe with sanitiser.
apply gel as normal.

If your getting lifting and have a bubble i would show her as it is her application at fault.

HTH bio is a lovely gel so dont let her obviously lazy ways put you off.

thanks for your advice. i filed gentle downwards over the bubble as it was catching and seems to be ok now. i will obv speak to her if it gets worse but i don't have time to get it fixed until later in the week anyway!

just wanted to know about the prep thing as assumed it should be done but didn't want to say anything to her until i knew!

hi Ophala,
Yes the prep work is very important and should be followed, and any cracks are normally not in the gel but the top coat asTracey quite rightly says...your tech shoul have advised you to buy the top coat and bio polish remover from her, and then you would normally replace top coat once a week or so to keep the nails looking perfect...please remember only the bio products though, as others WILL bubble or lift your gel, as I have tried this, I hope this is helpful...

if your gel is feeling 'stickey' i'd say you've used something the bio gel doesnt like....mine goes like that if i use scrubfresh on clients whilst working
