You have now scared the living daylights out of me:eek:
i hate them even more now they bite. the thought of a spider biting me freaks
me out. are you o.k? i think i would have passed out. i am definately going to get some
conkers this year. i think they hate mint aswell so i always burn peppermint oil in a
burner.

What about conkers wrapped in mint, just to be doubley sure!!

I'll let you know if it works, I hate 'em too.

That is horrible! I didn't know they bit either. It's bad enough that they can crawl and jump fast. Urgh makes my skin crawl!

The best thing to do if you get a bite that gives a reaction is to take antihistamine.
My hubby got quite a few spider bites up his arm a couple of years ago, his arm swelled up, went red, was hot to the touch and was causing him a lot of discomfort, he ended up having an antihistamine injection from the doctor.

We have Black and Brown Widow spiders here (not seen any yet!!!), tarantula type spiders in the summer months and a few varieties of snakes (some poisonous)!

The processionary caterpillas are quite a hazard and can be lethal to animals.

Eeeerrrrr Sandi! Tarantula type spiders yuk!

I'd be phsically sick if I saw one of those near me, not to mention hysterical!!

I'm cool with snakes though, we used to have one, nothing as big as Carls' though!! A 6ft honduran milk snake, she was lovely.

It was on telly a few weeks ago some women got bitten by a spider on the isle-of-wight,she put her hand into her gardening gloves! apparently they are a breed that has somehow gotten here from the canary islands!!! (i think they can be poisenous too) I'm pertrified of any spiders....even tiny ickle ones!!! I won't go in the shed and if I get one in the house my poor neighbour gets a knock on the door, lol!!!

Yep, this is true, unfortunately! They are breed called false widows, that have arrived here due to the increasing warm weather. I had one in my garden the other day, happily making a big web, im sorry to any spider lovers, but i had to get my dad to come and squish it before it got too comfy. They do bite, they will not kill you, but the advice is to get medical advice asap if you are bitten, eeekkk, how horrid!!!

The spider is the one who will need medical help if it comes near me:)

Just read this off Judy's link a money spider can bite and we were told pick them up when I was little so we would be rich

Money spider, Leptohoptrum robustumBody size
Female and male 3-4 mm.

Appearance
Tiny. Grey or yellow brown (photo none).

Habitat, range and season
Damp vegetation, widespread in the UK. Throughout the year.

Bite report
Workers at a sewage treatment plant complained of being bitten by large numbers of this tiny linyphiid spider, resulting in local redness and swelling (Duffey and Green, 1975).

I had a little lump yeasterday from the bite but it went down after a few hours, did swell up a little bit. I'm not a massive fan of gardening and don't like garden gloves for this very reason, leave them in the shed and you're asking for a spider to make it their home, its the same with wellies, makes my blood run cold to think of putting your foot in and there being a spider there, specially now they bite!!!

I went walking about 2 years ago to a local nature reserve type place, with flip flops on, stupidly, and I felt a really sharp stabbing pain through my foot, I looked down and saw the biggest furriest spider sitting on my flip flop!

I screamed and kicked out and luckily it flew off, but the next day I was in agony.

It had bitten me inbetween my two toes, and my foot was getting bigger by the minute! I couldnt even get my shoes on for work, the skin felt like it was about to burst and it started to oooze  yuk.

My boss took one look at me and escorted me to Boots pharmacy lol, I got some cream and it went down in about 4 days. HORRID little things, I really dont like them! And I still have a scar!

I have to say i have a fascination for spiders. Lets face it, if you were a spider and someone as big as us picked it up. you'd bite too. Most spiders in this country do bite but either are too small for you to feel it or just can't penetrate the outer layer of our skin.

I used to keep tarantulas as pets as they fascinate me. One was black with white stripes on her legs and her fangs were the size of cats claws. She was a costa rican zebra. Then i had 2 african baboon spiders which were a gorgeous orange colour. The thing is, they aren't the sort of pets you stroke! But are fascinating to watch and learn about. ( i know i am sad) I just decided as i used to be terrified of spiders i wanted to conker it and not pass on my fear to my little girl. She is fascinated by spiders now, although i will always tell her to be careful of any large ones just in case.

I have family in aussie and they have the Black Widow, Red Back which are both poisenous and can be deadly, plus the brown snake which does kill you if you don't get medical attention within 20 minutes! None of this would put me off going there and when i did a few years back, i only saw one red back.

Funny thing that, as I dont mind the big fat ones, when I did the photo's for my haloween comp entry, the spider sat very still in my models hands and we were all fascinated by it and the snakes, scorpions and the big fat toad.:lol:what none of us liked were the maggots that he put in her hand and which wouldnt stay still long enough to photograph. yuk.

I love the spiders, but DETEST maggots!!! Eeewwwww, when i went on a family boating holiday and my hubby and daughter were fishing, she left the lid off of the maggot box and they went everywhere, i couldn't sleep for 2 nights thinking they were all over me.....

Oh my God, my soon to be ex husband did exactly the same, they were crawling up the walls! I would come home to find a pot of them in the fridge, the worst thing he would do though, was put them in his mouth to warm them up (sure he only did that to make me heave though)
