Last week I did a set of white tips and gel overlay on some very bitten down nails. Also the client then wanted the tips very short. Basically I had to put the tips as near to what would have been a free edge as was possible because otherwise it would have looked as though she didn't even have a nail plate! She has since lost 2 tips. I knew it was going to happen as there just wasn't anything for the tip to adhere to. I couldn't sculpt because the form wouldn't have anything to grip to.

I have told her that it isn't wise to have them re done as I am sure the same thing will happen and that to leave it a few weeks and not bite. I don't like to turn business away but until her nails grow just a little bit more she is behind help I think.

Would you have done something differently?
Many thanks

Hi, if it were me, I wouldn't have used white tips at all.

As you are a gel user and quite new to the business, I would have applied and blended tips and then used either an opaque coverage gel for the nail bed or used one colour, pink or clear, and then polished the finished nails.

Polishing with colour would give a lovely balanced finish that you wouldn't be able to achieve with either white tips or normal pink and white gels (excluding opaque coverage gels here if it's not in your zone at the moment), plus they would be more likely to last longer, looking gorgeous the client may be less likely to bite them off!
