Oh dear.... maybe if I'd come across this forum sooner I may not have gone ahead and done nail training. But hey ho....

So let's start with gel.... I'm using the edge gel, mainly because I need some cracking sets of nails with it in training & I guess it feels like a little saftey net :) But then I start reading threads, not come across the edge gel (which may or may not be a good thing) but i come across Bio Sculpture Gel & Calgel & many others.... are there a lot of different techniques used to apply these or are they basically all the same just a different brands??

Bio 'Sculpture' Gel - Does the sculpture in the title mean nothing more than the other gel's??

And coming on to what I'm very interested in but not yet done any training on is nail art.......do I really NEED to get the qualification for insurance purposes or........??

Cheers ears.... I'm sure I'll be back with more newbie questions..

No the sculpture part is just the name...although you can sculpt with with

As far as i know you don't need an additional certificate for nail art....

Hi hun,

I am also from Essex! did you train with the edge? i'm not trained in gels but i did my L&P training with them originally and i agree ive learnt more from this site and from my textbooks than i have from the training i had with the edge!

No i didn't train with the edge. I did it through Essex School of Beauty. Which was OK, but I think these quick courses could be terrible for people who are maybe naive and don't think properly about the contra-indications etc. For example, we were told to ask our client if they had diabetes, but didn't tell us why we needed to know this. Only once I came away that I thought I'd research more into infections that I found that you shouldn't cut the cuticles if a client has diabetes - naughty! I'll go back for more courses but only because I work full-time I don't see many other options of getting the qualifications elsewhere.
