Hi guys i am new 2 this site so hope this goes ok!! I have a sunbed shop and aswell as doing nails, beauty ans sprays etc i am looking at getting in some outside business. I have jus sorted a date for a company 2 come and do laser teeth whitening and was thinking about someone coming in to do botox and fillers. Does anyone know a reputable company that would come 2 the salon we are near manchester????

Hi

I sent you a private message concerning this. We have a business with 3 practitioners and between us I am sure you will find someone you are happy with to come to your salon to offer treatments. If you want any other advice don't hesitate to contact me

I have to butt in here. This is not a professional approach for any medical practitioner to be offering botox treatments in a sunbed shop, nail bar etc etc. Simply not the right clinical environment and devalues these treatments. This type of practice is everything our industry is striving against.

Hi Daisyl, as long as there are the right clinical things in the room in line with IHAS requirements then it is absolutely fine. IHAS have a tiered system for practitioners operating in multi locations whereby you pay additional amounts if you go to more than 10 locations. What they don't agree with is offering botox from home or in other non suitable locations.

If we were to say it has to be in a true clinical environment then it would only be solely clinical locations so there would be no medi spas or practitioners who set up aesthetic businesses but also employ beauty therapists.

Further to this the RCN will cover you to practice anywhere. Also, community nurses have no choice but to undertake clinical procedures outside of a clinical treatment room with the support of their employers.

Sorry smooth, I strongly disagree with you here. A MediSpa in no way compares to a sunbed salon. A MediSpa is dedicated and geared towards non surgical cosmetic procedures - a sunbed salon isn't. Crucially, and more importantly - a MediSpa has medically qualified professionals PERMANENTLY on site, a sunbed salon does not. When treating patients, I do not think in terms of botox and/or fillers. I look at the bigger picture - far more important to address any skin issues, no point in treating someone with a filler or botox for anti ageing purposes if their skin has not been properly assessed, so I also treat by means of peels, MDA, writing prescriptions, rollering etc etc. I think to really be able to offer the patient the very best treament all these factors have to be addressed - a MediSpa caters for this - a sunbed shop doesn't. To draw comparisons is quite ridiculous, as is comparing community nursing! There are huge differences. The point is we are talking about 'appropriate' clinical environment, of which a sunbed salon really is not. We are not talking about working in an operating theatre!

IHAS do not support such practice. I know what the response would be if you spoke to Sally Taber - I have! But taking IHAS out of the equation as they are not a government organisation - most respected practitioners would discourage this type of practice. Most respected practitioners agree this devalues and trivialised these procedures - it gives completely the wrong message.

So our opinions differ hugely. I know the pharmaceutical companies do not endorse this kind of environment. I was talking to dermatologists and cosmetic Drs/Nurses last week at a Galderma study day - I can tell you the overwhelming consensus was this practice is not welcome. It certainly is not one I would endorse or agree with.

Hi im in Maidstone Kent and am also looking for someone to come to my salon to do treatments - can anyone recommend?

We'll agree to disagree Daisyl , I have been to see many salons in my time and if the room is appropriate then that is nothing different to a medi spa or other location unless you have wax drizzled all over the floor and other remnants of beauty but in that instance the room would need to be cleaned anyway before even the next beauty client came in. In mine I am not always there so there is not always a medical professional on site but that doesn't mean I am an unsafe practitioner nor are my patients at any risk if I happen to take a days annual leave. When treatments are carried out yes there clearly needs to be, in the places I go to (and many respected colleagues) if there is a problem they can be contacted straight away.

I have been to clinics also where the location has not been so desirable or the injector present has been teaching other clinic staff to do consultations or worse! I'll not name names but it doesn't bare thinking about.

As long as the person injecting is appropriately qualifed and it is in a suitable environment, clean, well lit, private with all the necessary items then that is ok. What I don't class as suitable is someone going to like you say a standard sunbed shop or hair salon where they are injecting in a room with a sunbed with the patient/client sat on a normal chair. Or worse still at the end of an open room with nothing but a wheeled partition between them and the rest of the salon. Yes I have even heard of a salon by me doing that but luckily that didn't last long!
