Hi I'm a staff nurse with over 12 years general experience looking at doing a Botox course. Which courses would any of you recommend? I'm thinking of medics direct. I live in the north east and don't hold the v300 qualification yet. Please can anyone give me any info on the course, where you studied etc? Is it really difficult?! I know remote prescribing has been stopped so guess it's essential that I do the course. Do u know any v300 courses that are specifically targeted to aesthetic nurses? Sorry for all the questions! Any advice would be really appreciated! Thanks x

Sorry, I am not familiar with the training companies in the NE. Do your research though and find one which will support you after the course as well. Medics direct should be ok. Yes the prescribing course will be essential for you and I would get on one asap. There are specialist courses available but they tend to be more money. I just did a regular course and managed it OK. I would recommend joining the BACN they have a facebook page which is invaluable for advice and support.

Thanks for your reply, I will look on BACN site now. Do you do Botox full time now ? If you don't mind me asking would you say you earn about the same as working full time for NHS? I really want to do it but have 2 small kids and am worrying! X

I would say I was part time but planning to expand next year! I do a mixture of employed work, self employed where other people find the clients and I get 20% of what they take and personal clients which is the area I am expanding next year by renting a room/web site etc.
I earn much more per hour than I did in the NHS in my employed job. Lots of people do aesthetics part time and keep their NHS job as well. I started off leaving the NHS and having a full time aesthetic job which helped me learn the ropes.
Look on the ARC web site for jobs you may find a clinic in your area willing to take you on and train you up.

Are you a nurse prescriber? If so, fab, if not, beware!! I did my training with cosmetology in london in June.. 9 days later the GMC ruled remote prescribing is now banned (and in reports I've seen since - too right.. people trying to make a quick buck without putting the client safety first). I haven't practiced at all in botox.. a prescriber can take up to 80% consulting fee, meaning you may take £20-£30.. which isn't worth it with such a steep insurance fee - not a viable business. I've gone down the root of Caci, and very pleased I did. I also did the fillers course, which may be something you are also interested in, as this doesn't require prescription. However.. get decent training - the technique is fiddly, and although I gained a certificate I wouldn't practice on the training I was given.. 1 day wasn't enough for me. x

sorry.. missed the first part of the thread! Down in the south the v3000 has all of a sudden doubled in price.. hmmm.. wonder why!! And to spend necessary supervision time with a prescriber is about £100 and hour.. on top of the course fee.. they don't make it easy! May be they are kinder in the north!

I totally agree with SarahAesthetic. Similar story, did botox training then remote prescribing came hell for leather. What a waste of time and money. Haven't been able to get any use out of it and as Sarah said the overheads with getting someone else to consult and prescribe are so high it's just not worth your time or effort.

With regards to the V300 course that's another con. You pay them to do the course, if you can get on it, because you should have at least 12 months experience in the area you want to prescribe in...

...So you approach every clinic available to try to get some experience ready for prescribing... ARC will tell you that you need 50-100 injections before they can help you... See where this is going??

My advice to you is keep your money and go for laser hair removal or something newer. I'm a year down the line and absolutely no further forward despite letter upon letter, email after email and being told for any suitable uni course 'sorry you haven't enough experience/the right experience/we no longer do this course due to insuffiecient demand...'

Hi All,

I was wondering if any of you out there could give me some advice.
I'm a self employed registered nurse. I'm looking to do the V300 prescribing course in order to set up my own Botox Business. But I'm finding it hard to find a university, they all seem to require that your already in full time employment and that your employer sponsors you. Can anyone recommend any Universities that don't have this requirement????
If anyone could recommend anything it would be gratefully appreciated...

All the best
Luisa

Hi bx is my bread and butter and I have now left NHS only doing the occasional agency shift.
I agree if you are not an independent prescriber there really is no point doing the botox course. I did my basic botox course with cosmetic courses and I'm from the North East. I travelled to Buckingham but they now satellite it to Manchester now it's a great basic course. But then there are all the advanced courses too if you really want to make a difference.
Teesside university do the independent prescribing course and you can self fund and claim it back as a business expense. There are ways to get medical mentoring too, you can offer to work the hours put into yourself back for the medical mentor, GP surgeries may snap your hand off for this but of course you need to know that area of practice. I have just had a nurse practitioner come for a mornings mentoring who has done the botox course and I have another coming in August for the full day.

However these girls are also prescribers. One thing I can say I notice is whether there is "a fire in your belly" to do something? If there is you will find a way around obstacles. I can usually tell if someone is really going to make a go of it message me if you need more info :)

Hey, it wasn't me directly but my close friend recently did Botox and dermal filler training at Dr Hennessy Academy in Preston Manchester! We are from the North East to but she said they came up a lot when she was asking around. She said she highly recommends them, super friendly, professional and high quality training! Maybe have a look at them :)
