Hi, I am reasonably new to waxing. and this site (Love it) I use both waxing systems but prefer strip wax for most areas of the body. I am having some trouble when doing bikini waxes around the pubis. Sometimes the hair is very course and just won't come out first go. I am always reluctant to go back over the area as it can be very sensitive. Also I am finding that on some ladies the hair on the labia extends inside...Should I be removing this hair also when doing a brazilian? If so, how does one go about it. Thank you in advance for any help you can offer...
Sam

Hi,

Most clients will expect you to remove the hair in the labia for a true brazilian.

I would recommend you buy some disposable thongs/knickers and ask the client to put them on.
ask the client to put the thong inside the labia and pull upwards ( the knickers and the skin) using both hands. The tighter the skin is pulled the easier the job is and is less painful for the client. Its actually not as painful for the client as it looks, so be firm and confident, dont hesitate. You are right not to go over the area twice if poss, its so easy to cause a reaction on this delicate area!
Lots of aftercare lotion and pressure after the treatment:D

Have fun!

also try using oil on the area before you do the waxing, only a small amount but imo it makes the hairs come out easier. and as already said, defo make sure the client helps you out with holding the skin. Have you had training to do brazilains and hollywoods? other than the normal waxing training? x

Hi, yes when I did my training they included Brazilian. Unfortunately the models didn't seam to have the amount of hair in the areas that I am seeing out here in the real world. I use a small amount of oil prior to waxing and find this helps in less trauma to the skin. Its just that at the pubis the hair is very thick and course and does not always come out first go..I also find that clients find this area to have the most discomfort. My clients tell me that I am gentle and don't seam to hurt as much as when they have had it performed previously. I find that the labia gives me the most trouble. I dont seam to be able to keep the skin taught enough and on some people the hair grows in diff directions and inside. The skin inside seams just to delicate to wax... Maybe I just need to be more brutle?

i've been working as a professional therapist for 3 years and always struggled with waxing the labia however i went on a course yesterday in brazilian and hollywood waxing and i have to say that i find hot wax much more effective in this delicate and tricky area. The key is take control of the client, make her work! she is not here for a relaxing treatment and she has two free hands so use them! get her to pull her underwear really tight and stretch the skin with her other hand. use her knickers to hold the labia down so they "flap" (sorry horrible word!) about. Do very small sections at a time and only uncover the hair u want to remove otherwise u will try to remove to much and thats when things start to get difficult. Take your time and don't get stressed out like i used to!!!

The key to a good brazilian wax is to make sure the skin is as tight as possible. This means making your clients do the stretching. For the pubis mons I get the client to lay their hand flat on their tummy, right above the patch of hair, and pull as tight as they can towards their belly button. Then I apply the wax from the top of the hairline down to where it meets the top of the labia. I only do this only on one half. (do the other side after). When I do the actual labia, I get the client to lay their hand flat on the pubis mons and pull towards their belly button. With their knee bent and to the side. I apply the wax from the perenium up about half way on the labia, then remove. Then I do from the top of the labia down. I always tell my clients... the tighter you pull, the less it hurts!! Also, I never allow them to leave any clothing on (from the waste down). Having disposable undies, or their own undies only hinders my ability to get in and get the job done thoroughly. I tend to use a lot of oil when I'm doing genital waxing.

Oh, and to answer your question about removing the hair on the inside of the labia, apply a generous amount of oil, and wax away!!

HTH.

I'm doing a Brazilian waxing course in January, how long does it take to build up confidence in specialised waxing?

I still get nervous when I see a heavy hair growth in the bikini area and worry how I'll ever get through it - in small bits usually.

Am i right in telling someone who shaves it'll take at least 3 waxes to get their hair growth into a pattern because of the stages of growth and that after their first wax after shaving they should come back in 3 weeks to get the next set.....

Do any of you trim the hairs at all before waxing?

Thanks,
aj

i definatly trim the long hairs first for two reasons:
1 it makes my job easier
2 it's less painful for the client.

The more you practice, the more confident you will get.

I tell my clients it takes about 4 waxes to get their hair growth into a good pattern. I advice a client to come in 3 weeks after they last shaved, but every 4 weeks after that. This way they get the best results.

I don't trim very often... only if they come in and have crazy long full hair, then I'll get out my trimmers. Otherwise, I don't trim.

I do trim, but I find it very messy - hairs eveywhere - any tips??

Do any of you ask your clients to trim before they come for the appointment?

It can be messy trimming,You could change the couch roll before going on to carrying out the wax treatment, but to be honest I think your client would be a bit embarresed having to get up semi naked.Probably better just to get on with the job in hand.

I wouldn't ask my client to pre trim as they may take off too much and then you wouldn't be able to carry out a good treatment.HTH

You would wait about 3 weeks, depends on the your hair growth cycle. Some peoples grow faster than others.

Some salons provide the thongs,or you can just wear your own.We dont supply them, you wouldn't need to take your knickers off with a Brazilian, that's just a thin landing strip, the Holywood is everything off,and even then some therapists dont ask you to take everything off, they use the thong to keep the skin taught.

If you dont want to take your thong off nobody will force you.We are easy to talk to.It's your decision.Dont worry about things. If asked, just say, "I would rather leave my underwear on please".HTH

I never ask my clients to trim. I have had too many people come in that trimmed and the hair was too short to wax. I rarely trim, but I prefer it be me that does it.

I have a paper under them, and when I trim I just get them to live their butt a little and remove the paper.

Yes, you should apply the wax in the same direction as the hair growth. So if you need to take a few smaller sections then do so. If you don't, you are going to end up with wax stuck and have a hard time removing it and causing unnecessary bruising.

Unless my client is coming in for a basic bikini wax, I have them strip bare from the waste down. Underwear just gets in the way.

Can you tell me what oil u recommend for braziliian waxing . Ithought oil would stop the wax adhering to the skin . I use strip waxing.

I use a light massage oil with Tea Tree Oil added to it.
