So I have an elderly client who phoned me up last week after tea time and said her little finger was v sore and throbbing, she was booked in for an infill a couple of days later but said she wanted them taking off as she was worried.
I raced round there after I had put the kids to bed and had dinner and was HORRIFIED at the sight!
Her left hand was perfect....but the right hand it was awful there was loads of what appeared to be brown staining and was on the nail and the skin.
I thought this was perhaps from cooking or gardening but it was hard to remove and was painful for her.
I could tell under the nail on her little finger there was some sort of infection as it looked dark red and felt warm.
Anyone know what happened here and how to treat?
Ill put a photo up in my albums please have a look

xxx

My guess there would be she banged her nail very badly and the brown stain is more than likely blood.

I think I'd leave it for a bit until it heals.. a picture would be great though.

(if it was a bacterial infection, it wouldn't hurt)

Staining was on all nails chick...have managed to add the photos have a look and tell me what you think xx

Ouch yes I see what you mean... I thought you meant that it was actually on the nail itself. (well under the enhancement)

So the Paronychia is only on her right hand then?... was there any lifting around the cuticle area by any chance?... it could be bacterial paronychia ... if the bacteria got in around the area where she could have had lifting.

Anyway, we could be here all day guessing, so I would advise her to go to the Doctor to get it checked out... she may need an antibiotic to clear it up.

l have said she needs to go to the docs and get a diagnosis.

Do you think this is fungal?
Have you seen this before?

Would you recommend regular manis to help the recovery?

I think it's bacterial, but if it was left untreated it could turn fungal... it's very unusual to have a fungal infection in fingernails, its more associated with toe nails.

I've never seen anything like this before personally (luckily)

I'd wait and see what the doctor says, but if it IS a bacterial infection it will be contagious and you may risk spreading it etc so best to not do any kind of treatments until it clears.

As far as I know, she could have got this from doing a lot of housework without wearing gloves, so it's nothing you've done wrong.

The fact that her other hand is OK indicates that it's nothing that you've done in my opinion.

I'd love to hear how she gets on and how long it takes to clear up, if the Doctor does give her an antibiotic.

When you say the staining is on all the nails it looks like only her right hand & not under the enhancement.
Is she right handed?
Does she colour her own hair or put coloured mousse on it? even coloured mousse can stain the hands if you don't get it off quickly.

Yes the staining was on her right hand on all of the nails...under and over the enhancements and all over her skin too.
She doesnt have coloured hair...just grey and she goes to the hairdressers every week so she doesnt mess with it herself.
She is right handed and there was no lifting etc just this strange staining.
There was infection under her right pinkie as is was dark red, very hot and tender....she said she had a temperature aswel
I will phone her and ask her if shes been to the docs yet and check.
Ill update you all when I know more xxx

Hi Saddlesore,

I was curious to know if your client ever came back to you... did she go to the Doctor?
