Bruised and split toenail

Hi everyone. Hoping someone can help me here. The picture I've attached is my mums toenail. She broke it a few years back and its not been the same since. However I removed her foils today and it is split(always been bruised) right in the middle.do you think this is safe to put gel on? Would appreciate any advice.thanks Beth xx

Absolutely not, I'd ship her off to the Docs before I'd touch it.
