Hi all i'm still learning - I always think i will be!

I am having problems with my brushes, they are not lasting me a long time and i know that i am doing something wrong. I was taught at college to get all the glue type stuff (not technical term) out of a new brush without touching it and was also shown at CND so im happy thats correct. I immerse my brush in monomer before use to get out air bubbles etc, and then use as usual through application, to clean the brush we were taught to clean it in monomer.

the problem is that the brushes keep staining pads yellow after only a few uses and i know its cream crackered at the pint that yellow stain is coming out.

At the cost of feeling silly, can anyone help as it is costing me a fortune and really frustrating me.

I use CND products if that helps with advice. Many thanks in advance again

This sounds like your brush is contaminated. How do you store your brush when not in use? Can happen if you are storing your brush vertially with the bristles pointing up. The monomer left in your brush then seeps into the ferrule (i think thats the word. it's part where the bristles are held together in the tip of the handle) this causes breakdown of the glues in there which then contaminates your brush and the monomer you then dip it in.

Thanks for the advice Its just so frustrating, i understand exactly what your saying but I store my brush in a CND brush holder and lie it vertically in my box (single brush in single box), i will check that its not tipping back but im sure that its not. Im trying to think if anything else could be contaminating it, but when im working i have lids on everything and place it back in its box after use. Do you think it could be anything else?

You can give the bristles a gentle wash with baby shampoo,
make sure you rinse it well,
then leave it to soak overnight in monomer,

i used to put a big blob of blu tack on a wall,
half fill a dappen dish with monomer,
submerge the bristles into the monomer and hold in place with the blu tack on the wall,
cover dappen dish with tin foil,
leave 24 to 48 hrs,
then using clean monomer dip and wipe your brush to get out the monomer it has been stood in for the hrs,

it doesn't always work, depends on how bad your brushes are, but it will save you a fortune on the times it does work, hth

Are you by chance touching skin with the brush? The natural oils in skin can contaminate it. How about your liquid? Any chance that it is contaminated and in turn contaminating your brush?

Proper CND brush care is to store it flat and covered, never touch the hair with your fingers, and the only products that should come into contact with your brush are your CND liquid of choice and the powders. You want to use a separate brush for each liquid (Retention, Radical, Moxie) that you use. CND recommends that you not use brush cleaner, solar oil, shampoo, dish soap, scrubfresh, etc. for your CND brushes!

I guess we both have the same question. I have a thread on the same problem. Lots of good answers thanks. :) Sorry Sara for asking same question, didn't see yours. With different time zones maybe we posted at same time.

Franjess, i just found your thread and followed the advice of looking up brush contamination. There is a great thread of "brush contamination and how to avoid it" I have had a real Ah ha moment as i thaught that i was using too much monomer so used to really dry my brush as best i could. OH HOW WRONG!!!!!!!!!!!

Always learning and im sure would have quit alont time ago if it wasnt for this wonderful site!!

Many thanks again to you all
