Hi All, i'm new to the forum and decided to join and post a question as i've just had the most disasterous thing happen to me. A client came to me for an eyebrow wax and it was her first time. I used cream wax as I thought this would be better for the first time.
When i pulled the strip off all the hair didn't come off. I put another strip over it and tried again but there was still hair left on. The same happened with the other eye. I ended up pulking the remaining hair out. This was on Friday evening. She rang me this morning and has said that she has too scabs under her eyes that look like burns. I tested the wax and it wasn't too hot. I feel so guilty, i really don't know what went wrong. I've told her to come and see me this evening after she finishes work but i'm not sure what i should offer her in terms of compensation etc. She is (luckily) really cool about it, although a little upset that she has to walk around with to scabs under her eyes and shes wants to know how long they will stay like this and if they will scar. PLEASE ADVISE.

Hi

Now first off - calm down! I am sure this feels devestating at the moment (it can happen to the best of us) and the only thing you can really do at this point in time is advise the client to apply some appropriate calming lotion like Sudocream or an aloe vera based or calamine lotion or to come and see you again so that you can give her some after wax lotion.

I would normally spray Avene Thermal water onto eyebrow waxing after treatment. Probably what happened is that you went over the area too many times. If hairs don't come out after the first go it is sometimes best to just tweezer the rest out. Unfortunately this area is very delicate and thin and is prone to sensitivity more.

i am sure that Kim Lawless will be able to advise you further should you need it.

You know we all learn by these blips so try not to get into too much of a state about it.

Hi yes I agree, it was most likely you going over the area twice, if you can see that your clients hairs seem quite course it can be better to use non strip wax, one they are better at getting course hair and two it is kinder to thin skin. Make sure you put a thin layer of oil on first and really stretch the skin this too can help protect this area more.
Play it safe and tweeze out what doesn't wax out first time.
I would offer her a free brow shape next time, and just put it down as alearning curve hun.xxx:hug:

Scabs under eyes? Brows are above eyes, how did they get there? have you seen this?

I think she meant scabs under the eyebrows!
The skin is very thin under brows which is why i mostly use non-strip wax. With non-strip wax you can go over an area more than once.
Always apply a little oil under you wax whether it be strip or non-strip.
Stretch the skin well whilst applying and removing wax.
Was your client on any medication?
Certain skincare products affect the skin so you need to ask your client what skincare she used. This should be detailed on your consultation card.
The scab will probably take a week to 10 days to clear.
Scabs should ideally be kept dry and not picked at! It shouldn't leave a scar.
It's a horrible situation to be in but you just need to be honest with your client.
Does your consultation form ask about skincare products?

Thanks everyone, i'm feeling a lot better now and the client really is being sooooo understanding about it. I will in future put oil where i don't want to wax and will consider using strip wax, although i've never heard of it. I did mean under the eyebrow rather than eye! The client uses Olay which I was sure i'd removed with cleanser before the treatment.

I've advised her to use Bio oil (which i provided) to minimise any scaring and i refunded the eyebrow cost and have offered a free treatemtn. She has decided she wants a massage which we've arranged for Friday.

Really don't know why i haven't joined this site earlier there have been lots of silly little questions that have popped into my head that i could have asked on here. Working alone at home you don't have anyone to bounce questions and ideas off, so thanks again to all that replied to me on the forum and those than PM'd me too.

You put the oil under the wax not where you don't want to wax.
You only need the teeniest tiniest bit and then apply the wax over it.
It creates a lipid barrier and the wax will only stick to the hair and not the skin.
I use jasmine oil.

I did this to myself when i was just learning - went over the area twice. i ended up with scabs but i put sudocrem on and they were gone in a couple of days i was amazed.

I learned my lesson though and if hairs don't come out with the first strip i tweeze them.

don't be hard on yourself and at least your client isn't being funny about it.

In addition to all the brilliant advice you've been given.....I would also mention that it could have been that your wax was too cool or too thick. This tugs at the skin.

If it were me, I'd thank her for being so lovely and give her a voucher for a free facial. She'll forget about the brows and tell everyone how lovely you are. xxx
