Could anyone please tell me if a C&G Diploma in beauty therapy is the same to an NVQ 2 in beauty therapy??
I only ask because this is the only course that is suitable for me to attend (ie hours etc) at my local college.

If it isn't the same is it still reconised as a good to have, I would hate to waste 2 years and then be unemployable!! Thank you in advance xx

Hi
I have no idea what is involved in the beauty therapy c & G but if it is of the same quality as the holistic courses IMO it far out ways what you are taught by the VTCT nvq courses. If you go on to your colleges website you should be able to download what the course covers. If not just do a google search on the exact course name. If I knew the difference between the vtct and c & g courses in holistics at the time, i would have definitely opted for the c & g. HTH.

If its the same as c&g when i trained years ago its the same as level 3 as you do electrolisis. hth

I thought I'd signed up for an NVQ 2 course (and at the time so did the tutor!!) but it turned out to be C & G!!!! It follows exactly the same syllabus as NVQ, same books, same assessments but is C & G.

I run my own salon with this qualification. In August the college contacted us and said that we could 'upgrade' to an NVQ by attending college for refresher and assessment (at an additional cost) to my knowledge no-one on the original course took up the offer.

C & G is a recognised qualification and, as we all know, experience is the key in this industry.

If in doubt, call a few local salons and ask the manager/owner if they would accept C & G qualification or only NVQ.

Before I started my new job 4mths ago I went into my old college to ask about doing an extra NVQ Level 3 course (they did 5 different routes - Makeup, Nails, Beauty Therapy etc and I did Spa Therapy for mine)

Anyway my old tutor told me that as of September 09 City & Guilds are scrapping NVQ 2 & 3 and are only offering the new City & Guilds Diploma instead, but that it was still equivalent to an NVQ level 3 after 2yrs.

I believe they've given the course an overhaul and included things like tanning and nails, whereas before they were extra courses.

Just what my college told me anyway

Hth xx
