Is calgel better for the natural nail? I use Brisa gel but had a customer say her friend goes to another salon that does calgel because the therapist told her it was better for the nail and she would never go back to other gels again.
Just thought I would get some facts on this so I can set my clients straight.

Thanks

Is Calgel better for your nails than Brisa Gel.... the simple answer NO!!!

There is no system that's better for your nails than others.

Cal Gel is a soak off gel and it soaks off, I use Bio Sculpture and as far as I have been informed, both gels are very similar in the sense they don't file very well and are soft and a bit rubbery... so no dust for the tech.

Bio Gel advertise the fact that there is less dust by calling it the "healthier alternative"... so the client thinks "ooh they must be better for my natural nails"... this statement is aimed at the tech and not the client IUKWIM and the client is assuming that they are healthy for her nails.

I use both Bio and Brisa gel and love both systems.

CND Brisa gel is absolutely brilliant and it really adheres well to the natural nail
(there are scientific reasons for this to do with chains crossing but another geekier tech will have to explain that one:lol:).. they don't lift and last for weeks, but if you pull them off you will wreck your natural nails the same as if you pull or pick at the Bio or Cal gel ones.

In my opinion, because the Brisa gels bond better with the nail, you will do MORE damage if you pull them off and this is what I tell my clients.

It's a bit like the false eyelashes... I LOVE them and use the semi permanent ones and the strip ones.

I got the semi perm ones and was very naughty and took them off myself (when I should have returned to the salon) and naturally a lot of my own lashes came off with them... this would never happen with the strip lashes.... so who's to blame??... me of course!!!

Some clients will pull and pick at their enhancements rather than go back to the salon and then they will tell everyone that "those gels or acrylics ruined my nails"..

Oh God I'm going on amn't I??.. I'm sure you get my point:)

I really can not improve on An Gel's post ... which is excellent.

Clients 'take it all in like a dry nappy' as my daughter used to say

WE technicians can heavily influence our clients with our informed knowledge once they trust us so it is doubly important that we are not influencing them with UNINFORMED opinion.

When it comes to the facts, it is important that we give our clients the right information and not unsubstantiated or downright untrue marketing blurb.

You are right and smart to check things out before believing or passing on more drivel. Truth is that no product is better or worse for the nail plate than another UNLESS the clients (or technicians) remove the product improperly and then you just have better or worse CLIENTS or TECHNICIANS.

Tnanks for your feedback. It really does annoy me when a client thinks they know best when they have done no relevent training. I suppose it is not theyre fault but the technician that is wrongly advising them!
I have been qualified in brisa gel and l&p for a year and have really enjoyed working with both. I always make sure I remove them properly and advise the client accordingly, what gets me down is when you hear clients say things like ' she recked my nails' or as previously posted 'calgel is better than any other gel as its organic' etc. Who makes up all this stuff!! I am sure that there are techs which have been out there for a lot longer than me that could tell me a lot more fiction stories that get said. I know I will tell my clients the facts and hope they trust me as their therapist and give better advice than their neighbour next door that they met in the butchers with their fountain of so called knowledge.!

Maybe I sound a bit grumpy about it but I hope you understand what I mean x

I use Calgel and Brisa. Calgel is great for overlays but I hate using it for enhancements, unless kept really short. Still I prefer the method of enhancing with Brisa either way.

None of my clients nails are any different and I have a mixture of people using each system...

Well this bit is true for a change, but then all nail products are organic not just some. ORGANIC actually in chemical terms means nothing more that that the product contains carbon ... That is what organic means that something contains carbon, NOT that it is pure and smells nice and is gentle etc .. cow poo is organic and it ain't pure, it doesn't smell nice and you wouldn't want it on your nails.

HAHA - Geeg. Brillliant.

IF someone asks me:
"what's the healthiest system for nail enhancements?"
"Which will cause the least damage?"
"What is better for your nails; acrylic or uv gel?"

My answer is
"The system that does not contain MMA AND is applied by a conscientious and QUALIFIED technician".

Quality Enhancements (meaning: does not contain MMA) do NOT cause damage to the natural nail.
Unconscientious and/or unqualified TECHNICIANS cause damage.

ALL of the systems contain "acrylates" (including resins) and are therefor acrylics, but in different forms.
Butter is still butter, whether it's hard & cold in the fridge, melted in the frying pan, or mixed into the cookie batter. It is STILL butter!

"Bio" gel, "organic" gel, "Silk powder" nails, "diamond nails", "calcium gel", "seaweed" gel .....
These terms drive me INSANE as they are marketing that is misleading to clients. Client don't ask for technicians to define why this word is applied to the product. They don't ask "but does it contain acrylates". They don't ask for an MSDS, nor know what it is, or how to read it.
They don't KNOW what it is that they DON'T KNOW.

It's up to us to inform them & educate them.

However, we CONSCIENTIOUS and educated and informed technicians have the tough job of educating consumers that have been fed scare tactics and misinformation in ABUNDANCE.
A daunting task, indeed.

Honesty is the best policy. Offer it. If they don't like hearing it... ah well, their loss.

It sounds to me as if the technician was trying to keep her clients, but did it in the wrong way!!!! unproffessional slagging off a brand of gel she isn't trained on herself and a particular brand of gel that has won so many awards.
