Hi There

I am new to this site and would love some information or help. I have passed a manicure/pedicure course in august and then did the calgel one in september which i loved.

I am planning on doing this mobile and have really lost my confidence and dont think I am good enough to do it on peoples nails as I have not had a lot of customers - the fact that I have no where to do it but the most thing is I really want to build up my confidence to go on to do better things with calgel as I love the product itself.

Can anyone give me some advice as to how i can build my confidence in time for the summer hols when clients are needing their nails done for their hols,

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

ps this is a fab site

Linda

Welcome to the site,

Its very early days and we all felt the same way at the start so your not alone

You need to get as many family and friends as you can to practice on....(and i strongly recommend you charge them a little, just to cover your costs...people who get free nails don't look after them, also you will feel a bigger sense of self worth if you see a little money coming from your nails)

Have you go your nails done at the mo...? if so take a pic and either post it on here...or if thats too scary for you (it is scary your first time) send it to just 1 member (me if you like) and they will give you a very honest opinion on how your doing...I bet they ain't as bad as you might think.

You just have to chuck yourself in at the deep end, there will be issues and there will be mistakes...thats normal...but its the only way you learn...each issue you overcome and learn from makes you a better tech.

Hi There

thanks for reply - I know what you mean as most of you have been doing nails for years or new like me lol.

I have only got nail polish on my nails just now but I do my mums nails and they do last the 2-3 weeks so I know i got no problems with lifting etc. But I do seem to have problems with doing the side walls as i seem to miss them (think it an eye problem) and had the same prob with varnish as well. I did the NSI manicure/pedicure course and loved it.

I really want to get back into the saddle so to speak but when I do someones nails and they moan that it has not lasted the 2 weeks or so it batters my confidence.

I was given a great tip on filling a rubber glove with flour and practising put on tips and doing a calgel overlay so will get back into that as I didnt realise at first that i could cure them lol.

I need to build my confidence on the tips as quite a few of my friends have no nails or very little so would appreciate advice on that.

Hope this explains things a bit further on what I need to do. I have just ordered the book nailclass after reading other threads.

Its been said already, practice practice practice! Its the only way. On all different nail types. Ask to book a repeat appt there and then, even on your friends and family. Get a work diary, and book them in. Even your sister, mum, and dog. Then you can get to see how your nails are, hopefully if you are getting them right, you will, in a few short weeks, get the confidence boost you need when you see how well they last.
If perhaps you haven't got perfect sets after a few weeks, tweak your technique, go back to basics, get your sheets/workbooks out etc. then do the same again.

Then try and get models that you don't know as well, do the same, book them in your diary a maintainance appt (it might be good to get some appt cards if you haven't already so they don't forget!) and ask for positive honest feedback. Bet you after a month and half a dozen happy clients you'll get the nail buzz and there will be no stopping you!

On another note, I have just been on youtube, looking at nailzoo's tutorials. I know its acrylic not gel, but you might get some ideas from there, his videos are fab.

Saying that you are giving yourself til the summer, break it down, don't think, oh my gosh, i'll never so it, break it down into months. give yourself smaller goals. I know it sounds daft, but perhaps, jan-feb, concentrate on french, march nno, april, nail art, colours etc, may - june, refining your technique, buying a uniform, getting some flyers, get your hair done, do your nails and throw yourself into that summer rush!
hth and I know I go on a bit lol. good luck, rachael x

Hi

thanks for your comments much appreciated. I too have just been on you tube and had a look at the same as well - they are fabulous.

I have only done gel nails and not acrylic at all - got to do the gel ones first and be good at doing them on myself. It takes me ages though as we all do have one hand better than the other.

I was a nail biter for years so have now got some length in my own nails so will make a pact with myself once my busy time at my own job in local government is finished will spend the time on myself.

I owe to myself to make something of the nails as I have spent quite a bit on training and i know it hasnt been long.

This is a fab site as well as I have already picked up some tips.

Why don't you give Calgel a call. Confidence takes time for many people, but if you are unsure of anything and need honest advice and assurance, then I have always found the staff at Calgel really helpful and supportive.
