I am a Bio Sculpture technician but considering trying out Calgel. I have read on a few posts that both products can be used together however want to know if you apply them in the same way ie: for a colour overlay - Clear/colour/colour/S gel. It's a bit confusing because on some of the research I have done so far it appears you wouldn't use a clear base or top coat (by top coat i mean S or Sealer gel) and that the colour would be applied directly to the nail? I appreciate that Calgel colour needs 3 minutes to cure. Can anyone advise me? Also, what would be the best or most opaque pink to use for a french?

Bio and Cal gel are the same gel as far as I know.. you'd be better off staying with Bio as they have a better colour range:hug:

Well funnily enough the only reason I am considering Calgel is because Bio have discontinued the pink I have alway preferred to you for French Overlays! :irked: I really don't like the other pinks they have so am having to look elsewhere! Otherwise I wouldn't have even considered it!

Hi I use both, calgel colour can be applied directly to nail plate, and colour takes 3 minutes. Bio has a better colour range. But gels are both basically the same

Ah thanks for that. Should I be using the S or Sealer gel on top of the colour? Also, could you recommend a good pink for French?

Its alot of money to convert over, I use Calgel and am happy with the product...I do think that colours could do with adapting abit and some adding to...but can you not mix colours to get the pink you need...seems abit ott to spend xxxx on a different course

I haven't yet had the nerve to mix my gels! Actually I may try that. I do have a couple of pinks and a slightly glittery colour I could try! Will keep you posted !!! x

I had the same problem with Bio... not mad about the pinks. I like a nice natural pink, so try mixing some clear gel with the no. 22 red (I'm nearly sure it's no. 22) you only need a hint of the red gel.. so maybe when you get down to the last bit of clear in your pot, you might be brave enough to try it.
The only disadvantage to mixing the colours is that the colour tends to fade after a few weeks, so I now use Orly polish bare rose on the base of the nail (don't paint over the white) and then super shiney top coat from CND on the whole nail... it looks fab and will last weeks! HTH x x

From what I can remember the creator of Calgel was one of the people who created Bio Sculpture but then one half went into business on their own and so Calgel was born- or so I heard? So this would make me tend to think they are the same.Bio does have more variety with regards to colour and sculpting/sgels etc. as far as I can tell? Don't know if their costs are similar? I don't think you can get hold of Calgel easily though without doing the full course as just like with Bio I think they only supply to qualified Calgel technicians. I must admit I have also not really found a Bio pink I like yet either(the one's I have tried are all too creamy in colour- if that makes sense!?)

I use Calgel and love it, never lifts, great for sculpts and tips and exceptional customer service at head office. I wish Calgel did more colours though. It does seem to be a huge expense to spend out if you just want a new pink for french though. I would have a play with custom blending your bio gels first. xx

Which of the Bio pinks is being discontinued?

I would imagine you would be able to use a calgel colour with the bio other products but what will they charge you to buy their products in and will they charge you to convert?

Have you tried the other soakable gel ranges?

Le chat do a gorgeous ballerina pink, but I would never dare to mix the two brands. Unless anyone else has with success!

I wouldnt actually mix two separate make gels together but I have layered different makes quite successfully on many occasions.
