Calling all tanning salon operators/managers, here at Tanning World magazine we'd like to hear your views on the new Scottish legislation that prevents under 18s from using UV tanning equipment - and operators from running unstaffed facilities.

Do you think the legislation should be extended across the UK?
Do you think it will have an effect on under 18s using tanning equipment?
Do you think it will have a negative effect on the industry?

I have never let anyone under the age of 18 use the sun bed in my salon anyway,
legislation will automatically extend to the whole of the UK i think,

i am more concerned about the fact that anyone of any age can hire/buy them for home use without anyone to give them usage advise.

Yes, I don't let anybody under 18 tan either. It's obviously going to be introduced across the UK, because of public opinion that's been influenced by newspaper coverage, so I thought I might as well start now

Definitely think unstaffed, coin operated salons should be banned.

Hi,

No I think they're waiting for sensible rules and guidelines.

At the moment all they see is the manipulated/sensationalized stories in the newspapers and it scares them.

I would not let an under 18 use my sunbed - legislation or not!!! If there are better restrictions/laws i think it would be better for the industry. There are too many tanning salons out there allowing clients ( including under 18's) to do whatever they like with no guidance as to how many minutes, how often etc.. A friend of mine checked out our local tanning shop and was allowed to do two sessions in 1 day absolutely crazy. At least with better restrictions clients will get better service and salon owners know where they stand.
