I trained at the Carlton Institute and have my Diplomas. They gave me General Manuals for each subject. However I am doing the NVQ Level 2 from home, but they have not recommend any books (only sent me all the work, so I have no idea on the more complexed questions) I am currently trying to do a subject at a time, so could you recommend a book for Manicure and Pedicure NVQ Level 2 please? I am really struggling, please help :)

Doug Schoon Nail Structure and Product chemistry
Encyclopedia of Nails - Jacqui Jefford & Anne Swain
Nail Artistry - Jacqui Jefford
The complete nail technician - marian newman

Nail Class - Gigi Rouse xx

Encyclopedia of Nails By Jacqui Jefford, I still refer back to that book lots. NailClass is by far and away the best companion for experienced techs to refer back to. hth x

Hi, which one would you guys recommend for a beginner?
I would love to buy them all as they all look good, but obviously have to start somewhere! :green:

I have to say "The Complete Nail Technician" changed my life as a nail tech. It was perfect for me as a beginner! But of the books mentioned it is the only one I have experience with!

Good Luck

Now Ruthie this is a much better question to be asking!
I rec The Encyclopedia of nails as it goes with my ITEC syllabus nicely and I'm sure the NVQ system too. The Complete Nail Tech was the first one I ever got and is also amazing these are brilliant ones to start with. Actually elaine almonds advanced manicure & pedicure will give you loads of advice on contraindications and actions.

Elaine Almonds book is so out of date I wouldnt get that one at all! As already said perhaps start off with the encyclopedia of nails..it is a great book x

It may be out of date but that is the what the d&d sections are based on. If you want a distinction you have to conform to the syllabus I'm afraid. The whole qualifications system is out of date, the procedures, some of the info but we must teach it. I must teach students what a pyogenic granuloma (sp?) is even though its description itself is ambiguous!
Ruthie is in college so she must learn what is needed to get the highest possible mark - so far we have seen that some tech's do not know the difference between a contraindication and a contra-action!
