Hi All

A bit long winded.....

Oky girls and boys I'm working away at my new salon now open 15 weeks and the last 2 week we have had a number of Canx!!!!!!!!!!

This gets me thinking what is going on ???????? today I have a client call to say she wished to canx but before I could do or say any thing she said I have booked elswere as they are much cheaper!!!!!!!

Oh I say they client said yes you are far to expensive i would have to pay £52.00 for my spray tan and nails...... mmmmm (I think this is quite a reasonable price for both to myself) then client finished yes the other salon is only charging £35.00.

I said for what client reply both spray tan and nails (I just about fall of my chair)..... I said thanks for you call to the client and hung up.

OMG how is she making any money she has overheads and were the salon is she must by paying way more then me for rent rates etc........

Is the credit crunch that bad peps that wee are not making money on treatments or has the world just gone mad...

How do I compete with this I know I offer a quality over quantiy and a good service..... what do you suggest.

Stick to your guns and do not lower your prices,
IF this other salon is offering treatments at the lower price but is no good then the clients will soon come back to you,
i have a salon next door but one to me and they do sets of nails for £15 and spray tans for £10
i charge £35 for nails and £25 for a spray tan and i have not lost any clients to their offers,
a few have tried them but they always return to me hth

Ah ha keeping it small writing it long

Lou's right. Keep your prices where they are. I have a salon over the road from me, who in the week I opened, put a sign in their window saying "nail extensions £20" - this is £10 cheaper than my cheapest set, but I carried on and made sure that I advertised my services as high quality treatments. I have even had one lady book with me who said she booked with me because I was more expensive, and that if she booked the £20 lady she would have expected to get £20 nails!

If you reduce your prices, she will reduce hers even more and you will get into a price war. Try and find out where she is doing her advertising and do yours in the same place, but make it clear in your advert that you do quality nails, not cheap ones!

Thanks chelle

There is no way I will reduce the prices, as you say quality over quantity and I have had clients come to me from other salons due to poor quility of the nails.

As to the advertising I have been very lucky and only placed one advert to let peps know we are open and most of the client I have are word of mouth.

I think word of mouth is one of the best forms of advertising you can get. Although I am thinking about doing and add soon as the first one I placed only coverd the small town the salon is in. So the next should cover the surrounding area/towns which are all approx 5-15min from salon and we have free parking (lots of which the surrounding towns dont).

Trust me when I say that client will be back. You get what you pay for in this industry. There is going to be one little thing that you do that the other place do not or she is goin to have one bad experience and say that she did not have that problem at your place. I see it all the time. Know that you offer a way superior service and you do not have to comprpmise. That is just one client. Granted maybe quite a bit in a month out of your pocket. But stick to your guns and it will be ok.

I know how you feel I am going through the same thing at the moment and
I really let it get to me at one point until I asked for advice on here.
I researched to find out what the other salon done to find only white or
natural tips and concentrated on offering what they can't do i.e glitter tips
custom blend etc I also increased my prices for these.
It does make people think and I have now made it clear why I am more expensive.
you will soon be getting those cancellations running through your door for help when their treatments have gone wrong.
stay strong:hug:
