Hi geeks

I am fairly new to the mobile tanning business and someone has just got in touch to ask if it is safe for pregnant women to have a spray tan and i honestly dont know. Is it safe or not?

I was told that it is fine to spray tan a pregnant lady, unless it is before the 1st trimester (3 months) then the hormones messing about can cause a patchy tan. I think most people avoid spraying before the 12 weeks but as far as I know it does no harm. hth. Claire x

wow thats interesting! handy to know aswell because i usually tan my sister once a week and she has just found out that she is pregnant.

thanks for the heads up :)

It is not deffinate she will go patchy but hormones can make this happen so it is worth getting her to let you know if she has any probs, everyone is different in the way they react. hth. Cx

I advise not to have a tan in the first 3 months. This has nothing to do with it not being safe, it's due to hormonal changes that can make the tan patchy!
Some people would rather not spray clients who are pregnant but i have no problem with it.
Make sure you have your gun turned down low and there is plenty of ventilation.
I actually had a pregnant client pass out on me just last week.
She hadn't eaten that morning and she went to the doctors straight after and was suffering with low blood pressure.
I think this would have happened to anyone with low blood pressure and who had not eaten, so it would not put me off spraying someone who is pregnant but it will make me ask more questions before i start spraying!
I've also had someone throw up as well and they weren't pregnant!
As long as you feel comfortable with it then there is no reason why you can't spray someone who is pregnant.
You can also use sniffits to go in the nose which i think you can get from wow products.

thanks for your very useful post!! i wasnt aware of any of this so its very handy to know. could you explain more about the sniffits/. not sure what they are/do.

hiya!

Im not a professional tanner but i get tanned, use home tans and im pregnant. Iv always tanned throughout both my pregnancies and first time round had no problems - although when she was born with jaundice i thought it was because of the tan! Blonde moment lol !

However this time round iv noticed that the tan hardly takes to me at all. You can see the original colour guide but next day after 1st shower the majority washes off!! I take this to be due to differing hormones levels.

Id just mention to your client that you cannot guarantee how it will turn out!

kim xx

Here you go:
Pack of Sniffits (12) [TTA004] - £5.95 : Wow Factor SprayTan, Beauty Products Spray Tan Wholesale

I think they just reduce the inhalation of the tanning products but if your not spraying too wet you shouldn't have much overspray anyway, but if it bothers your client you could try them. I have never used them but I am sure others have. hth, Cx :)

Sniffits are used to effectively block the nasal passage to stop anything going up!
I have actually sprayed someone who was 9 weeks pregnant(the same one who passed out last week). It turned out fine on her and she was really pleased which was why she came back.
I did explain to her that her tan could come out patchy and she still wanted to go ahead. You never can tell until you've sprayed them.
I advise them against it but she was adamant she wanted to go ahead and she was ok. Medication can affect a tan as well. Just make sure you give your clients all the information

oooh any forms of medication in particular?

Antibiotics. I advise clients not to have a tan whilst taking antibiotics and not for 2 weeks after.
HRT or any drugs that affect hormones could also affect the tan.
Any drugs that dry the skin such as roaccutane-clients need to prepare the skin well and moisturise well as spraying onto dry skin is not a good look!

hi

i had a spray 2 weeks ago and it came out lovly and am 38weeks pregnant but i was advised againts it in the 1st 3 months as it could go patchy x

i tanned myself with both pregnancies with the lotion as i was doing it myself.

I've never had any patch results. my last tan did seem to last a longer than normal

when i first got my gun i was practicing on a friend who was pregnant. she was fine but i had a chair close by and a glass of water. i found with my first job if i was standing for any length of time i felt faint so thought the chair would be handy for her.

My belly would never get tan when I was pregnant. This brown bod and a big white belly haha!!

lol thats exactly how i look now! The midwifes are guna have a giggle wen i go into labour!!!!

There are no dangers to either mother or baby when it comes to getting a spray tan ..as to weather or not to do it is very much a personal preference as is the potential outcome of the tan itself which varies from individual to individual.

It is well known that the hormones in women who are pregnant for the first time may increase the possibility of a problematic tan outcome.

If you are spray tanning pregnant females it is imperative to facilitate adequate air purification to the spray tan area as well as provide additional inhalation protection to the individual (sniffits or a mask).

These precautions simply make things more comfortable for the individual and may alleviate the need to keep a sick bucket close to hand :lol::hug:
