About 18 months ago my GP diagnosed me as having Acne Rosacea and prescribed Stiemycin Solution. Personally I don't like using it as it dries my skin out really badly and I don't like to use chemicals on my face.

I bought a sample pack of Dermalogica for sensitive skin which contains UltraCalming Cleanser, Soothing Protection Spray and Barrier Repair. It also has some other things which I have not used. Now I have only used it twice and my skin on my forehead has flared up really badly in the past day. Its red, sore, itchy, dry and flaky. My cheeks are sensitive too but not like my forehead. I am wondering if I have had an allergic reaction to the Dermalogica, or whether the heat has flared up the acne. Either way its driving me mad.

Can anyone offer any suggestions please. For someone who until recently had good skin its really disheartening as I permanently have a red face now  btw I am 39 if that makes any difference.

Thanks in advance!

hi, i have roseasa as well. i have never used medication for it. i really just watch what i eat, use tons of spf 45 on my face, and use sheer cover mineral makeup if i wear makeup at all.

try googling roseasa and see what is out there for natural remedies. some also list foods to stay away from. some foods dont bother my condition, others do. you really need to see what works for you.

hope this helps a bit, good luck.

Hi Anne, make an appointment to see your local aromatherapist, I make my own blend to keep this at bay, I just get tiny patch (1 spot, I usually put a drop of lavender oil on a cotton bud and dab it) on my left cheek now x

The first thing I thought when I looked at your photo is your skin resembles how my skin used to look (but I couldn't see that you have rosacea - perhaps the medication is working?).

I wonder if you could try an aloe vera gel with a drop or two of tea tree oil to help soothe the redness. I find aleo vera gel quite nice to use on my blemishes due to it's healing and cooling properties.

I have to say, your skin looks great for 39! :green: Such a smoothe forehead!!

Hi

I use the Dermalogica Ultra Calming Cleanser & have always found it soothing on my skin when it is dry. I also like the Barrier Repair..

They have essential oils in which perhaps you could be reacting badly to?

I have a lot of clients with this problem and always advise the altra calming and they love it. It's not impossible for you to react to it but I am thinking it is probably more to do with the toner. I do find that you have to get the amount you use of this, just right otherwise it can become dry and sore. So I would say carry on with your cleanser and scrap the toner and see how that works.
The barrier repair will help if you have reacted to it. It is great stuff. I would also say in this heat, to make sure you are using an spf of at least 30.
Dermalogica do sell tinted moisturiser which will help to hide the redness without blocking your pores, if you are concious of it.
Or go back to your gp and tell him you want to be referred to a dermatologist.

Thanks everyone for the replies, really appreciate it. I must admit it has calmed down a bit. I must confess I have been consuming some very famous american lager, its so lovely in this hot weather :) but I ran out of it a couple of days ago!I didnt make the connection in my first post but I'm sure alcohol does aggravate rosacacea.

I have been given quite a few ideas so I will try them out and see which is best, thanks again!
