I don't see how the uv light can cure them from below if you use these. Clear tips are best so that the uv reflects off the bottom of the lamp and cures the back of the nail also.
When I ran out of clear forms I used metal forms as a last resort. I made my free edge on the form with clear gel - making sure it's thick enough to support itself - then cured. Once cured, I removed the form and proceeded with normal application as if using a clear tip.
