I will start with a confession.......I have trashed my nails
I won't bore you with my excuses...stress/boredom/gardening!!...but I half picked and half soaked my latest enhancements off....and now I know the only thing that will get them looking FAB again is a CCB set of enhancements. This will get my nail beds looking long again and cover all the flaws.

Yes, I will do it myself or have a colleague do them, although I had thought about going to a salon.
Guess what.....nobody in my area provides this service!!!!!

So it got me thinking...I know some of you have tried and love doing CCB and working with camouflage powders and gels, but it does seem to be the same names all the time regarding this subject, some even just practising on themselves.

So who all provide this service within their businesses....and how many of your clients reap the benefit of your talent and expertise?

Has it added to your business, if so what percentage of your clientele have it, and are they happy to pay more for it.

As I no longer run a salon I would be interested to know. When I ran my business 2 years ago I had just started to provide this service and at least 25% of my clientele were interested and more than happy to pay extra for a customised service. Quite an addition to profits!

This service I feel more than anything would have put me way ahead of the competition if I had not moved on, especially as there is still no one else is providing it in my area.

Have other geeks found CCB good for business...and if not why not?

Poll to follow.!!

Hi Izzi

I haven't chose from one of the above,

It is a service I would like to offer as myself am a cannibal & I hate seeing short stumpy nail beds with longer whites, but when I asked my tutor about a course I was told that not many clients choose to have this done, so therefore did not offer a course but would offer a 121. I have bought a kit with the intention of doing a course, but my question is, do you think there is a requirement for it??

As a client myself, if I was offered to have long slender nail beds, would bite their hand off (get it?? cannibal ... hand  oh dear!!!!)

I do it on people with short nail beds because i hate people going away with short stumpy looking nails, and of course on myself because my nails are trashed. I think the whole look of the nail afterwards looks loads better if you can't see the natural nail underneath.

When I explain to clients they haven't a clue what I am on about - as soon as I say 'camoflauge' they get the idea, plus it their next rebalance is usually only a one colour then so it saves re-doing the french each time as it hides any regrowth xx

PS Forgot to add - at the moment i am not charging extra for it as I am still getting to grips with it, so i charge the same full set rate. Once i'm 100% happy with it I will charge more for the service but its only I'd say between 10 and 25% of my clients I do it on, and biters.

I use a coverage gel.....does this count ???..it does come in 2 shades...and i find it suits most peoples skin colour.

I use it on everyone....thin layer to add a nice tint to those who don't need coverage and then use a clear builder and build with the coverage for those who need it. x

I think you answered your own question there...YES, YES,YES!!!

But clients cannot ask for a service they don't know about.

Therefore it would be up to you to show them what is available....and it is perfect for you that you have the ideal nails to show them with. Your clients surely will be amazed to see your bitten, stumpy nails transformed into a more normal looking nailbed and free edge.
This is a perfect service for nailbiters, who although they hopefully won't bite your arm off for it, will be prepared to pay extra for it.

Angie...I would have said yes that a coverage gel would be included in this. However as you use it on ALL your clients then how can it be a custom service provided for individual clients....and that is really what you would be charging the extra money for.

you know i hadn't even thought of it like that....i guess i just thought that without it (for those who need it..) i wouldn't be doing my best job for them....i would feel bad not using it and sending them off with short stubby nail beds when i could have made them look alot better...but yeah i guess i should be selling it as a extra option. Thanks x

Out of interest how much more would you charge (on top of a normal full set price) for this service? x

Thanks Izzi, maybe I was looking for more of reassurance :green:

I charge an extra £5 on top of my full set price, I list it with glitter/ coloured tips.

I know salons who charge an extra £1 per nail for this, so £10 extra.
Again it really depends on what your price for a full set is anyway and what extra percentage you want to charge.

10-15% more seems fair. If you are in the £25-£30 bracket for enhancements then £5 more would still be fair.

So if 25% of your business switch over to CCB, not only will you have their total loyalty you will be boosting your profits with no real outlay, and once proficient it does not take any more time than a normal service.

I voted No because although I do this service on one of my clients ,(a nail biter who has very kindly allowed me to use her as a guinea pig!!) while I try to "perfect" my application.

I hope eventually to offer this as an extra service to clients and will charge slightly more.
I have spoken to some clients about it and they have expressed an interest and said that they would be willing to pay slightly more for a "personalised service"
Just not sure how much more yet????:)

I've just re-read the question so just to explain........
My No is in as much as I don't offer it yet, but yes as in I do think it will be good for business to offer it.......Oh gawd hope that makes sense, i think I've confused myself now!!!!

I may sond dumb but what the heck is a CCB????? A custom blend? What does the other C stand for? Creative? It's hard enought to try to read in foreign language even harder if people start to make up acronims....

Your not dumb at all, some of them confuse me as well and english is my first language

CCB - Colour Custom Blend.....or could be Custom Colour Blend??
I think thats right!!! :)

hth

Unfortunately custom blens being a Creative product it is impossible to get it in Portugal as Creative has no working representative here...

I do offer CCB, but at the moment I don't charge extra for it...... I use my coverage blend in as a thin layer in zone 2 to extend the nail bed then I use Perfect Pink in zone 3 and to build my apex...... I think it looks more natural that way as you still get the translucancy from the Perfect Pink.

I obviously explain the benefits and point out how it would look without the coverage..... I use it on approx 25% of my clients.....

this is how i do it!!

I have to say that I hadn't been a lover of custom blends in L&P. I purchased the coverage Brisa Gels though and fell in love!!! So after a little persuading by Amanda, I have given the L&P another go, I think that it was my fault really and that I hadn't made up a good enough blend so the overall look wasn't as pleasing to me as it could have been!

I LOVE custom blends and do offer them, however not my of my clients that I have atm 'need' them.

My Mum however does and her hands are transformed completely when she has them on, she has quite large hands and wide nail plates, yet adding that extra length to her nail makes her whole hand look so much more elegant.

If only you were closer Izzi, I would come and give you a set xx

Now that would have been great....and you couldn't have a better tutor than Amanda for CCB...she is a genius with it!!!......I was almost for packing my bags and heading your way...but I think you have had enough to do lately, so put your feet up, and relax instead

As for you Vetty....sounds a great way of doing this...but I would still be charging extra for this.....I bet no one else in your area provides this service.
People should pay for your skills and expertise. I know this will gain you a lot of loyalty from your clients which is good business sense...but extra income would be even better.

I've just started playing with this on myself (with gel) and have been really pleased with the results. I do tend to use a coverage gel most of the time anyway but find that on some skin tones it can look too pale. I added a drop of a bright pink polish to a little of my coverage gel on Wednesday and am really pleased with the results. Will see what they're like in a couple of weeks........
