I qualified in 1998 with a HND in Beauty from Chichester College, which was two years five days a week, having previously been on the National Diploma (which was also five days a week). One of the big issues with the way beauty is taught now is the lack of overseen practice. When I was at college after a few months we did one and a half days a week as a salon day, i.e. the training room was open to the public for treatments so we could practice on paying clients that weren't friends or family's and be watched doing it. This way any mistakes were nipped in the the bud by our teachers, we gained experience in treating a wide range of clients, and we got our timings to industry standard.
