Hi Guys,

im having one one of those demotivated, bored, comfortable moments, im renting a space above a hairdressers in a town.

I have been at these premises for 1 year 8months, when i first started my client base sky rocketed, to the point i could take on any more clients. But a year on from the start of the recession and ive had clients having to give up treatments, so my income has slowed down.

I dont feel challange or motivated, ive tried lots of advertising, promotions, loyalty cards, monthly texts and promotions, free raffle draws trying to encourage new clients and reward exsisting clients. I have kept a record of what advertising and promotions have been successful, but not sure what else to try and feel run down and my brain feels fried its like ive lost the battle. I have never felt like this im always happy, love work, i feel like the fir and excitement has gone from my belly.

Well the other day i got offered a room 1 mile from where i am just out of town with free parking for £170 cheaper than what i am paying now! the owner does hair and beauty but feels she can make more money doing hair, so she says the room doesnt get used that much and she hasnt really pushed beauty atall. she has phones calls for nails extensions and specialised bikini waxing all the time which is all what i do.

when i went to look at the room and had a chat to the owner i got that excited, fire in my belly feeling back! my husband has had a pay cut and im not earning as much either so this new cheaper room seems really appealing but do you think is stupid to change rooms just cos im bored with where i am and its cheaper.

any advice/ opinions would be great, even if its to tell me im stupid and knock some realisium back into me :smack:ha ha x

No doubt you have made a list of pro's and cons. A new salon gives you immediate access to some new clients, which is great as long as your existing clients follow you too.
In tough times, you have to think of your own best interests, and a saving of 170 a month is not to be sniffed at.

yeah i have done pros and cons

cons= its 1 mile away from town and i have alot of people who come in thier lunch hours.
cons= clients might not follow
cons= not on a bus route/ pro= but means i walk (lose weight)
pro= free parking, parking can be an issue in town, especially with clients being late
pro= access to new clients from hairdressers and phone calls/marketing
pro= cheaper rent
pro= hairdressers are willing to go 50/50 with advertising
pro= there is space in the shop to expand

and the list goes on theres just a few

There you go, you answered your own question. More pro's than cons there.

Hi There,

My friend was in a very similar situation as yourself. She decided to give the room up and started working from home which was only a mile from where she was based. She is making excellent money now as she has no rent to pay.

Maybe you could do this too?

If you have a garden you could have a sunhouse built and work from there, this is also becoming very popular.

Good Luck

I think some times you just want confirmation from fellow therapist, almost like your mum "everything is gona be ok" or "right choice" kind of thing ha ha

Unfortunatly we are in army housing so no sunhouse, i can look into working from home but only want to do this once i have a family, i like being out the house. Especially as my husband can be away alot its nice to get out the house and talk to people.

thanks for your replies
xx

You get far more trade, and opportunity in a salon. You may save on rent, but have nobody elses clientelle to tap into.

Thank you for all your positivity guys, i always think change is exciting but scary too! i think im gonna go for it.
My clients i have followed me from the last salon i was employed at and was only there 3mths, so fingers crossed after another 1year 8mths they still feel the same and follow me again. Im also excited to meet all the new clients i will have xx
