Hi

I have only done one chest wax before, and it didnt go too well to be honest. I later reaslied (with the very kind help of wax queen) that the hairs were too long. Tonight I am doing my second chest wax. How short should I be trimming the hairs, or should I be using clippers on the hairs?

Also, my client got a lot of spots after, and he promises me he did exfoliate, he also said it was very itchy. Will this happen everytime he has it waxed? He goes on holiday this month and doenst want a hairy chest, but also does not want a chest full of itchy spots!! xxx

Unfortunately I think some guys are just prone to acne after waxing, though my experience has been repeat clients have less of a problem and good aftercare advice and suitable moisturiser / medicated cream can help.

I usually clipper hairs down to a grade 2 or 3 (3 - 6mm) and this works a treat. Just watch out for the hairs ... if your not careful they get stuck all over your client during the waxing.

Good luck
Mat xx

If I feel that my clients hair is too long then I would use a comb grade no 3 on the hair before attempting to wax. However you can use scissors if you wish its what you feel comfortable with. Hair should be no shorter than 1/2 cm for optimum results.

As well as exfoliating the area 3 times a week I always ask my clients to moisturise the area waxed daily which keeps the skin supple and helps the new hair to grow correctly thus preventing ingrowing hairs.

You can also advise your client to use a antiseptic cream - sterex do a antiseptic aloe vera soothing gel which is great and a good retail opportunity also. Just get them to apply to the area for 2-3 days after the treatment You can pick these up a local wholsaler. This will help with the itchy spots.

Hope this helps - good luck!!!!

I find most men suffer post wax with spots on the chest and back. It has a lot to do with the fact Men sweat and when this goes stale it settles in the open follicles and causes spots. I always tell men to expect this and as Fozzyo said a good antiseptic cream works wonders!

To stop it hurting as much I also rub a fine coating of talc over the area as again there are more sweat glands here than legs and the wax bonds to the skin causing more discomfort.

Theres very few men out there though that will find this area a walk in the park!

The first time I had my chest waxed I experienced the same problems. It was also the most painful area - worse than the intimate bits! I'm sure the reason for this was the length of the hair which was at the time completely untrimmed. Since then I have learned to trim them back to no more than 1/2 inch and the discomfort is greatly reduced.

The way to avoid ingrowing hairs and spots is as described above - exfoliate and moisturise regularly. That's true for any area and does make a real difference. I use an exfoliating brush and a good light moisturiser every day - that sounds a bit metrosexual for many men but if you want to be smooth you have to make the effort.

The little spots are just the sebum coming out of the open follicle unfortunatrly this happens to most men.

Although it's expected that men will break out after a chest wax (yes, it is the most painful area) this should only happen the first couple of times. I'm lucky in that most of my fella's don't.

TIP: Clipper their chest whilst they're standing and when the hair is dry. This way, you'll find that it doesn't float everywhere and get stuck to other body parts. xxx

thanks everyone for your advice - expecting my client any time now for his wax so shall let you know how I get on xxx

Kim,

How do you clean your clippers after each client?

Thanks!

I take the cutting attachment off and wash it under hot running water. I then brush the hairs out of the clipper head itself and get a damp tissue to get every last hair out. Then I spray both the cutting attachment and the clipper head with hospital strength sanitiser, making sure that the clipper is pointing downwards so the liquid doesn't run back into the motor. All this take a couple of mins, no more. I do the same with combs, scissors and tweezers. xxx
